Consistency, Consistency, Consistency!

I have read all the info, understand exactly what I need to do, have the plan, skills and ambition, yet I don't stay consistent. I work my fingers to the bone for a few days or weeks, then "life" just gets in the way.
Do any of you ever get this way? I allow life to get in front of my online business, and before you know it, two or three weeks go by without any action. I know that consistent actions get consistent results, yet I keep on being in-consistent. When I am consistent for a week or so, I begin to get some results, then something always happens.
I have a full time job in another industry, and I allow this job to overtake my mind and extra time I have to work on my own business, and in my head I rationalize that it's my main source of income so it's ok, yet my soul screams at me when I do.

This post is not just a rant, but a statement for all to read, a commitment I'm making to the world (Well, WA at least) that I accept these excuses no longer, and it's time to stick to a regimen. I'm going to spend the weekend closing open ends, and on Monday 2/10/2014, I will work on my business every single day, pushing myself to create something I have dreamed about for years.
If anyone out there has this same issue, I encourage you to join me, and put your foot down, and commit to consistency! Leave me a comment if your having this same issue or have in the past. Let me know if you've gotten through this phase, and how you did it. I would appreciate the words of encouragement, and the stories of your fight to help me through mine!
Thanks everyone, the WA community is awesome! I love you all!
~Mason

I one of the tools I have gotten myself is a White Board with Dry Erase Markers to help me fight procrastination. At one time I was jumping around from task to task. Thinking I was working but I was not really making much progress.
Now that I'm using my board I know where I need to be according to my schedule. I can more manage where I'm at and what I need to be doing. I have done this so I can be more consistent with my work schedule. Since I'm my own boss I need to be more accountable to myself.
Hoping this may also help you with you being more consistent with your goals.
David.
Ahhh, a white board, great idea. I'm going to get one TODAY! Thanks fastracks! This way my family can also see what I need to do and encourage me, also give the time needed. Awesome!
I bought a calendar and note on days what I want to accomplish. For example write this review and another day write another article for my other website. I find it makes it easy for me. Thanks for sharing. Debbie
Great advise Debbie! I have started a separate calender to clearly mark out my tasks and be able to get a grip on what is needed. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the rant. In reading the comments posted here, so many of them spoke to me PERSONALLY!
I just need to quit blaming the MS and the cold and get on the computer and start doing it. Thanks for the "kick in the behind" I needed.
Me too bkcook, the comments are where the real gold nuggets are! Thanks for adding to the value!
Consistency is my middle name when it comes to adding posts to my website. I post one every Thursday. I chose to do only one a week, as it is easier to do keep it up than more than one. I find that routine easy to follow
Awesome Gordi! I find that I just let things that don't matter get in the way of what does, I major in minor things, and at the end of the day, what I have been spending my time on doesn't matter. Thanks for showing me that there is hope :)
With me, I think I get too overloaded with information. There"s so much to learn. I make some progress, then I have to take time to learn more. Then I have to think of what to do next. I guess, eventually I will be more consistent.
I see a lot of people feeling the same way, information overload. I'm pretty in tune on the "how" and "what" to do, I just let things get in my way. I have found that in the begging, during the intense learning phase, I had to slow it down and take it slow. Thanks for the input Starcreator!
Mason, I'm so proud of you that you are doing this for yourself and to realize your dream! Everybody gets stalled out at times. I've told a lot of people in this family that I have the attention span of a gnat! Talk about getting off task! Holy Moly! What I did was had a talk with my husband about what I needed to do and needed his help so I could do it. We live a rather hedonistic lifestyle - come and go as we please. I've had to stop that and create a daily list and time frames to do it. We all get a lot more email than we used to since being part of the WA family. That in and of itself takes management! Give yourself hourly time slots and stick to them. Once you get a pattern established, you will look forward to it. Just my thoughts . . . .
Thanks softwind, I'm going to take your advice and stick to the plan, instead of changing my path because of life's daily circumstances. I appreciate your word of encouragement!

Sounds like maybe you are a bit of an "all or nothing" sort of person, your either killing yourself on a particular task or project, or not touching it at all. I am like that in certain areas at times. You could try giving yourself a small easy to reach goal/project to accomplish on those days that you don't feel like working on it at all, usually that will get me back on track when Ive fallen off, it doesn't seem so overwhelming then.
You know lane2000, you hit the nail right on the head with me. I am 100% all or nothing. There are some good things when you have this mindset, but also some down sides. I have to find that happy medium, and I think your advice on smaller broke down tasks on off days is exactly what I need! Thanks for sharing and making me feel like I'm not alone in this struggle!
