About MarlaineB

Hey WA people,
So several years back I tried out affiliate marketing, made a few websites, made a few sales, learned a LOT, and then let everything slide (even closing down my sites due to more expenses than income) as life happened. Life, meaning marriage to a wonderful man, and having two beautiful little children.
I am right now a stay-at-home-mom and would love to help supplement our family income during nap-times and quiet evenings. Something triggered my memory about how I enjoyed IM, so I find myself here... this time hopefully to give it a real go!
MarlaineB's Goals 3
Money Goals
Q1: $1,000/month. Would cover nicely the private Christian education costs for our children... starting in 2 years or so.
Q2: $2,000-3,000/month. Would feel like a "real" part time job. I won't be committing full time hours to this, so part time pay for part time effort seems fair.
Q3: Approx 10 hours a week at this point... more in the future. 2 busy toddlers who don't like Mommy on the computer make for exhausting days... but available evenings.
1
Money I would be happy earning
2
Money I would be ecstatic earning
3
Time I'm willing to invest to achieve my goals

Hi there Marlaine!

Well it all starts with a goal and now that you've got your goals outlined you can start working towards them. The more time you can spend working through the training here at Wealthy Affiliate, the sooner you will have the foundation that you can build upon. You have full control over your online business and we'll be here to help steer you in the right direction as you move forward.

Glad to see that you are taking action already by publishing your goals!

Hi Marlaine,

I found your site through Site Comments, and I must say, the more I read of your posts - the more products I want to buy lol
I've now found something for my younger niece too, as well as my daughter :) I've booked marked your site, and am following you! Your website and posts are awesome!

Thanks so much, Erica! That just made my day.... wasn't feeling very "up" about how things were going today. Sales are VERY slow - I'm soooo hoping things kick into gear in the fall (Halloween??) Gets frustrating and hard to stick with it. It really helps to hear people are enjoying it. Thanks again for your kind words!

How is your own website/online journey coming along? :)

I'm glad I helped you feel a little better. I'm just amazed at how quickly your post converted me....you're really nailing it:)
My journey is slower than I would like... My partner works away, so I'm home alone most of the time with my 1-year-old. I'm finding it really difficult to find time to get productive work done. Since I can't focus, I find myself researching a lot, and doing a lot of keyword research. Writing first drafts easyish, but actually getting them to a state where they are 'publishable' is so difficult:/

I'm a SAHM to a 4 year old and a 2.5 year old, so I totally get the "hard to find time" thing!! It gets tiring spending every evening and every nap time doing this too, but I'm pretty determined not to have to go back to the office life (both of us working full time). And there's just NO way to get anything done when they are up - they are rather hands on kids.

I've struggled with what you mention too, about getting stuck doing non-productive "work". A little tip that actually helped me a LOT was to assign myself a publishing schedule! I choose Mondays and Thursdays, and I've found it a great motivator to try to get ahead... simply because it feels SO GREAT! I just use that "schedule" button and only publish live twice a week. Having one or two "ahead" gives me "permission" to take a few days off or "time to work on my Pinterest boards" or do some research around WA.

I also learned that not every post needs to be "great". Just write, re-read, add pics, link, and then press publish. I've gone back later to edit on occasion, but mostly, the more I do this, the "easier" it sort of gets.

Glad I converted you for the product LOL, but really, I haven't seen many sales yet. Perhaps it'll still come. I'm determined to keep giving this a go. At least through Halloween, Black Friday, and Christmas! :)

What's your site? Can I take a peek?

That's a really great tip, thank you - I have set a publishing schedule for myself... its still too infrequent, but I think I need to set more realistic goals for myself, plus I'm going home to NZ in two weeks for a visit for a few weeks. So I'm going to get prepared, and have posts ready to publish while I'm away.

Yes, I need to let go of my posts sooner...

You can have look, but even though I started in Feb, I really only have one full-length Post up so far - terrible I know :( There's not much to look at so far...

I love what you've got so far! Don't be hard on yourself... this is a pretty challenging endeavor, isn't it?

I can see why you might feel you need to edit a fair bit with your topic... :)

I started a second site about a month ago, feeling like I could perhaps do one a week on IT, get it off the ground and simmering, etc., but I've only done 1 so far there too. I guess it wasn't just "realistic" for me. ONE site is more than enough for now. Maybe when the kids are older.

A trip to NZ would be LOVELY! :) Have a great time!

Marlaine, I am just reading your comment on my web post re Ysabel. So I came here to read all about you.

This sounds like a great time for you to start back in IM again. I hope the nap time works. My mum had twins. One was a good sleeper and the other was very active. The result was that the nap time was never very long as one would wake up just as the other went to sleep. Good Luck.

I don't know how far along you are here but work hard, have some fun and don’t forget to ask questions.

A very nice boss once told me, ‘Helen, when you ask a silly question everyone else breathes a collective sigh of relief because they don’t have to!’ And that is so true. No question is silly so ask away.

If I can’t help I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Now let us keep in touch.

Ciao
Helen

Thanks so much for looking me up, Helen! Nice to connect with you. :)

My kiddos are very busy, yes... but it sort of seems sometimes like things are getting easier. They are now 2 and almost-4. I'm starting potty training with my 2 year old tomorrow... so I MAY need to gather all my energies for THAT instead of my site LOL.

I love your silly question quote! I've definitely made use of the questions when stuck, but I also have benefitted SO MUCH from the "silly questions" others have asked here! :)

Have a lovely day!

When I was at potty training stage we lived in Ghana West Africa. My mum thought I was brilliant as I learned in one day. Sometime later she found one of the villagers cleaning up after me. The Ghanaians love their kids and don't like to see them upset. And they seemed to have 'adopted' me!

Hi again Marlaine it’s a good idea (only if you want to) to click the 'Like' icon within a comment if you like it as I have done with yours.
Obviously you don't have to click every single comment or you will be here all day doing nothing but.
But to click the ones you like that are replies to your own comments will be reflected in your WA ranking because it shows you are getting involved with the community.
Enjoy your day.

It's been really amazing. I can work on my online business as well tend to my kids. My eldest son is currently having chicken pox and I feel so blessed that I can actually take care of him without having to worry about office work and without getting irritated when the office call for some emergency or urgent stuff. It's working really great for me! I'm sure you'll be very successful too especially since you've had some experience with this before. Good luck! :)

Chicken pox... poor guy. And poor Mom too. Hope it doesn't last too long for you all. Do you have others who will likely get it next?

I hear you about the possibilities here for affiliate marketing being AWESOME for moms. I really hope I can make it work this time. Last time I didn't really have any good direction... jumped from one idea and to the next, got suckered into too many "awesome tool" purchases, and whatnot.

Well, luckily just the two boys. His younger brother got it first two weeks back. So, he got infected after that. But he's recovering. The fever broke. Some of the chicken pox is drying well.
One thing that I think will help is to set your target clearly or what you want to accomplish and stay on that lane. The support here is great so I believe you can make it work this time. All the best!

Hope your son gets over it sooner than later! Especially before school starts if that's for him. Nothing worse for a kid than missing the first day of school. (Well, maybe for a kid who LIKES school.)
Have a good day!

Thanks so much. Oh, he loves school. Most probably because he can play with his friends during the break. I'm so grateful he caught it now during the break, though it's nearly the end of his break. Have a nice aday too!

Yes, enjoying the training, thanks! Tough to fit in while being the mom of 2 busy little ones, but when I can, I do a bit more all the time.
Any discounts for CDN members? The CDN/US exchange rate is pretty bad right now ;)
Reply
Kyle Premium
The discount is our price as it is. We have been in business 11 years now and our yearly price now is actually much cheaper than it was when we started out. The high USD is actually a good thing for you when you start earning income as you will earn money in USD.

I know it can be a little frustrating when it doesn't work in your favour (being Canadian ourselves), but almost all payments you make online for internet services will be standardized in USD.

Hope this clarifies and I hope you had a nice weekend Marlaine. :)

Thanks Kyle. Figured I'd just ask. My Dad always says "no you have, yes you can get". :)

Will probably sign up for Premium tonight or tomorrow, as I'm liking what I see. I searched you directly on google, so no affiliate will get the credit for it (from what I can tell). Any particular member you want to thank for some reason, feel free to pass on their affiliate link.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)
