Update on Support for the Classic Editor Plugin

Even though I use, and highly recommend that everyone transitions to, Wordpress's native block editor I thought I'd share this little bit of news from

WordPress.org

If you're still using the Classic Editor plugin you'll be pleased to know that support for the plugin is expected to be extended through 2022.

If you've tried using the block editor and didn't like it maybe it's time to give it another go. It's improved out of sight since it first became an integral part of WordPress. Maybe now is the time to try again.

This video is a bit old but it explains how you can have both the block editor and the Classic Editor plugin on the same website.

Block Editor (Gutenberg) or Classic Editor? You CAN Have Both

As always I'm here to help you,

Good morning Marion,

I hope you're doing well.

I must admit I haven't tried the block editor yet, it's something that I have been putting off! It's great that they are improving the editor all the time, good news. Maybe now is the time to try!

Have a great day and thank you for the info.

Roy

I'm going to have to watch the video sometime this week. I have tried the block editor for widgets since it was automatically installed in the latest update and it went well, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to use the block editor for blog posts ... I watched a webinar about it and it still wasn't clear, my version wasn't the same as the one that was presented in the webinar so I still couldn't figure it out.
I'll mark this post and watch the video this weekend.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Marion. I totally disliked the block editor, but decided to take the plunge earlier in the year and got stuck into it. To be honest it was a frustrating learning curve, but now it feels a lot cleaner. So much so that when I'm updating sites on the classic editor it feels very clunky.
I use the Generate press theme with the Generate blocks paid addition which is a great theme although I'm still trying to fully get to grips with generate blocks. I'll get there, its all down to practice, but for anybody trying to make the switch then I'd just advise them to do it. Yes it's frustrating, but everything is when you're starting out.
Good luck.
Paul

I'm using GeneratePress premium too, Paul. It's so versatile that every website can look totally unique. You must be glad you decided to persevere with the block editor instead of the Classic Editor plugin.

Yes, without doubt Marion. Just need to spend time and understand how what Generate blocks is all about.
Enjoy your day.
Paul

What's the classic editor? Oh I remember it came out with the Rolling Stones.

The times they are a changing.

Did you hear that the Rolling Stone's drummer just passed? Sad news.

Little known is that he also had a Jazz group and released several albums. Bit of a hero.
