Would I get extra money for X amount of people I can get to join?
Yes click on the black & white airplane at the top right side and you. Have choice of links to send to people and also explains everything you need to know about promoting and earnings for WA - check out your stats and links and also banners/ads for your use in the subsections.
To refer people to WA, click the airplane at the top. Your affiliate link will be at the top of that page.
You do get paid for referring people to Wealthy Affiliate. For started members, you will get $4 for the first month that they are signed up and $11.25 for each month that they remain with WA. You also get $87.50 if your referral goes yearly.
If you are a Premium member, the commissions jump to $8 for the first month, $22.50 thereafter, and $175 for yearly members.

I am very compassionate about music because it has helped me through some tough times. I just think its too general.
You need to be a bit more specific than that, your trying to get people to buy things or solve problems

Music in general is a broad niche but there are plenty of areas to write about. There is a lot of competition in this area which shows that it is popular. You just have to find a way to distinguish yourself.
Do you play an instrument? How did it help to get you through the tough times? Ask yourself some question like this and plug your answers into the Keyword Research tool. This should help give you some direction where to go with your site.
If you are passionate about music, you have started the direction of your site. You just need to narrow it down to the right path for you.

Yes, the affiliate link is used to get referrals and can also be called a referral link
