The Know-It-All Trap
I first registered as a free member at WA about a year ago. I had the best intentions of trying the available training sessions and creating the first two websites that the platform allowed me to create but I didn't.
You heard that right. I did absolutely nothing.
I did not even try to listen to a full training session and assimilate the valuable knowledge that the creators of WA were freely sharing with us, the wannabe successes. Each and every time I would open the training, a cat video would pop by, or this call would come at work or dinner will be ready at home. You get the picture.
This year, in an effort to motivate myself, I decided to become a paid member. Checked the training sessions, saw they were great but again, found a zillion excuses as to why I don't have the 15 minutes required to sit and be fully present at the session. I already had the marketing background, I knew a thing or two about Wordpress, how hard can it be to do without the training?
I hurried through the sessions, often fast-forwarding information. The next week I figured I knew enough to set up my website and write my first blog having researched keywords for a total of about 10 minutes.
And that's the main problem, isn't it? Most of us not only have short-attention spans but also the mentality of knowing it all. I used to say, hey I've done a Wordpress website in the past, why do I need to listen to this part of the training?
Because, trust me on this one, you need to listen. You need to be present. You need to change your mindset and become present.
Kyle and Co are here offering us newbies a step-by-step guide on how to experience online success and some of us can't even dedicate a few minutes of our time. I certainly am guilty as charged. I'm now aware of my own sabotaging habits and will try my best to start from the beginning, take notes and follow the process.
I've decided I'll be starting my website all over again at a later date. After I complete the training.
And I've promised myself to never be a know-it-all again.

I can totally relate! I think the biggest gift WA is now giving me is cohesion and focus. I know most of the details, but not all. And I'm not exactly coming to the table with any structure. WA is an extremely valuable tool, like "git" for business.
Great message Maria!!!! I salute your determination and it's true for all of us our determination is what keeps the motor going here even if we make mistakes we get back up and try again it really is a powerful and necessary methodology!!!! I'm guilty of that deal too, congrats on writing up post here being proactive about it!!!!
Great post Maria, what you wrote will resonate with many but well done for cracking on.If you can't make it here, then you won't make it anywhere... None of use will, thats a fact, because the training is second to none, not to mention the support
I am reminded of that saying a little knowledge is dangerous, many of us can fall into that trap in the beginning. the key to success with the WA formula is to simply follow along plenty of time to scale up as we go.
Thanks for the reminder, Maria.
you are absolutely right we need to go through the training step by step with one exception to do it along with Kyle. Do it while he does it. I found it a lot easier. When he is done you are done. No need to remember anything. You have done it with him. This is what I have done and will continue to do it. This is only my advice everyone it different.
I am happy you found your own path to follow the step by step.
Keep going, Renede.

Thank you for your blog post-Maria, I believe that many of us can relate to what you are saying! I definitely have a short attention span, it's something that I have to keep a check on every day, otherwise, I don't achieve much.
I must admit when I first joined Wealthy Affiliate, I went premium straightaway, as I could immediately see the benefits. However, I probably should have utilised it more than I did, although I was already working online and had websites set up and running.
I'm sure your posts will encourage many people to take more action.
Wishing you every success and a very enjoyable day.
Roy
Thank you very much for your feedback, Roy! Wishing you a successful and super-productive week.

And really ... you are not a newbie. You may not be totally up to speed on the Affiliate Marketing process, but you have what us newbies do not have when we start. You have digital skills and and you know the terminology.
Your background and experience provides you with what I'll call the 'no fear' attitude. Most newbie's proceed cautiously with the fear they are going to screw up. This really slows the learning process and is emotionally draining. I wished I had your background and skills.
Yep ... you certainly got trapped. But you're back and re-energized. I wouldn't skip anything if I was you, including the tasks. It should be very quick, and who knows ... you might learn a thing or two.
Just saying.
