Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content?
I have been hurting my head trying to improve my page speed for the past couple of days and I'm up to a 74 according to Google's PageSpeed Insights. It seems like this is the main reason I can't rise above 74.
I'm just curious if there is a way to get this sorted out or if we just have to live with it. I read up on it and it seems simple (if I knew anything about Java and CSS and coding). I understand how it's supposed to be dealth with but I don't know how. If that makes sense.
Anyway if nothing can be done. Is 74 terrible for page speed?

Matteo I just took a look at this blog of yours and bookmarked it. I scored my site recently and everything was great except there was too much render blocking. This blog should help me. And now I am going to follow you. Not only are you participating well here but I just finished a book with one character named Mateo (one 't' less). So I figured that was a good omen.
As for rendering, we are about to continue with rendering our strawbale house. So it's rendering all around!
Checked you site and it does look better than the old theme for the information you are presenting. I like the circles. I do a lot of fooling around with media but haven't done this yet. How do you do them?

I think your site is working right.I noticed though some kind of delay on the front page with your photos (is this a plugn) for opening that circle?..I do not use plugins for images and WA offer super speed.I would not worry about those crazy tests about site speed you tried
Hey thanks for checking it out. That is not a plugin it is actually part of the theme. It has many options and different ways to customise it.
I had the same question a while back. My suggestion to you is to not worry about that.
I have over 100 pages and post and some of my rankings are on the first page.
It just takes time and work to get there. My site is hosted here at WA and I've yet. (knock on wood) to have had a problem with loading time.
This is just my opinion. :)

I am also trying to figure this out as my pagespeed is only 49/100. Is that slow? it's in red so it looks dangerous...

Sorry I took so long to respond. It looks like your site is loading fine. My page speed remains around 77 and I didn't do anything about this render blocking Java issue.
Just look at the other issues that might be slowing down your site that are easier to fix and address those if you are still in the red.
PS I am an avid reader myself and I think your site is set up wonderfully.
