Today ChatGPT notified me that he/she/it/they/ - choose your own pronouns - now has memory and asked me if I wanted to enable it.

I did.

Then I had a chat with him/her/it/them/ - choose your own pronouns - to get some details.

I will not share the entire conversation but at the end I asked him/her/it/them/ - choose your own pronouns - to summarise it for me and that I will share with you all. Good knowledge to have.

Here’s a summary of our discussion:

  1. Memory Feature: You asked about my memory and how it works. I explained that now that it's enabled, I can remember relevant details from our conversations, helping to personalise responses and assist with long-term projects, like your book.
  2. Benefits of Memory:
    • Efficiency: No need to repeat details, as I can recall them in future conversations.
    • Personalisation: I can tailor my responses based on your preferences and ongoing projects.
    • Long-term Project Support: For things like your writing, I can track characters, plots, and themes to offer more coherent feedback over time.
  3. When Memory Starts: Since you enabled the feature today, I begin recording from this point onward. I won’t recall anything from before today unless you reintroduce it.
  4. Deleting Chats: Deleting a chat doesn’t erase my memory of the details unless you specifically ask me to forget certain information. You have full control over what I remember.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

So ask him/her/it/them/ - choose your own pronouns - if you will.

When you create a customGPT, you basically program it, but just like humans, they will forget. OMG. We're screwed!

That's the thing about the new update. If enabled, they don't forget it.

Neat, Andy! Thanks

JD

Cheers, JD :)

Hi Andy, I find 4o to be very helpful and quite accurate. I have challenged it a few times, and it always owns up to its mistakes. I find that odd, but I'm sure it will self-check and correct itself before long.

Dave

It learns just like a human brain but faster. That's another thing that this new update supports.

Hi Andy!

What version of ChatGPT are you using?

Pro. 4o. $20/month. It is really worth it.

Awesome, thanks!

No problem. While I have access to several AI services, somehow I always end up using ChatGPT the most. Based on my experience, it is still the best GPT service out there.

I wonder how good he/she/that or it will be at remembering!

Yes. My experience starts today. Recording that amount of data from that many users require petabytes of storage and speed to process it.

OpenAI have started to "dip its toes" in quantum computing so I can see it will go far, but right now they are depending on bits, not qubits, although they are besties with Microsoft and MS is neck deep in quantum tech.

I have noted some AI models had already had basic memory features but I am not really sure how accurate the memory actually was.

Yes, within a session GPT always remembered about 4000 words. This time it's different because now ALL chat sessions are recorded (if enabled) and used for further chats.

Good to know, thanks!
