Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity
Hi Folks,
People often approach me with the worry that they don’t know how to write good enough for their site or they have a fear of being looked upon as not intelligent with their current writing skills.
Well, a recent Princeton study found that using big words often causes people to think you're less intelligent.
They basically took a sociology dissertation abstract and created a "simplified" version then asked 35 Stanford undergrads to read the dissertation and rate both the author's intelligence and how difficult the writing was to understand.
In the end, it was clear that the simplified version was perceived as more intelligent.
The title of the study was:
Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity:
Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly
So, when it comes to writing for the web or on your website, don’t try to sound like a fancy pants yuppy and stuff your content with pretentious words.

Please utilize your erudite vernacular and
inscribe them within the utterance area below.

My ex is an academic and have always said that those who fail to communicate the material so that everyone can understand it are those who do not even understand it
Very interesting! It proves that anyone can build a website and blog on it. Not only teachers with good skils but anyone!
Thanks for the post!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
The lesson: KISS. Keep it simple......
I think I once heard someone say 'write conversationally if your can'.
Do correct me if wrong.
