Getting Personal.Good Idea?

So the blog is going well, but I find myself having a lot of doubt about my posts. I'm not sure why, but I wasn't into it for a while, and it was showing through my writing. So I took some time to think about it and wondered what I was doing different from the times I've written before.

After some reflection, I realized that it was because I wasn't putting very much personalization into it. I was focused solely on providing information and not putting much heart into it. So, I've decided to just...write. Write about what happened to Tori and I that day, and if we get a new product, I'll review it. If I get an affiliate product, I'll talk about it. But I think I'm going to stop focusing on sounding so...intelligent.

I'm hoping this doesn't backfire on me and I end up saying something in a post that's offensive, but so far the reaction has been pretty good! I guess we shall see!

I agree Liz, just be yourself that's really what people want to see :-)

I think that's a good idea, Liz. Let people know you. What's your sign? (just kidding) :)

Hahahaha good to know someone out there read my about me! Hahaha Thank you for the input, it's appreciated!

I am more likely to read a personal post than a sterile one... Good luck.

I'm the same way! Thank you so much!

I believe this is the prescription for success. The less 'sterile' our writing is, the more our readers will turn into buyers.

I'd have to say it can depend on your niche and target audience. However, to build on what Mel said, going personal is a great way to set yourself apart from the other big sites out there. To take an idea from the sales industry, "All things being equal people will buy from the people the know, like, and trust." Writing in a personal way helps you build that relationship with your visitor in a way that big sites can't.

And I wouldn't worry too much that not everybody will like what you write. The flipside is there will people that will relate to you so much more because of it. So it will probably be a net win.

That's what I'm hoping for. Plus it's way more fun to write when I make it more "me", haha.

Very true, I hadn't thought about it that way, yet! And I figured with the internet there's bound to be someone that doesn't like it, and I just had to get over my fear of that happening and just go for it! Thank you for the input, it's greatly appreciated!
