Three Months In.

Actually, I can't really list everything I've learned because it would take too long, but let me sum it up by saying that I am amazed by how far I have come in three short months since I joined WA! I have to admit, within the "trial" period I was skeptical. I still wasn't sure if this would end up being another scam I would be sorry for wasting my money on, and another waste of my time. However, I decided to give it a go and paid the $19 to try it out for a month. Well, I was hooked. I do have to say that there were days when I was ready to call it quits, feeling like everything in front of me was way "over my head". I mean, I am 56 years old, have a lot of computer experience but NO experience when it comes to putting a website together or even where to begin! I felt (and still do) feel so inadequate when it comes to my knowledge of web developing. When I took computer courses in school and in college, the extent of what we learned was the binary code and DOS programs...Oh, and maybe how to use Microsoft Word and Excel. Now days, it seems almost like "common knowledge" among the younger generation and I have to tell you, it makes me feel OLD! I used to be one of the younger crowd who "knew it all". What happened???

With that said, I am extremely proud of how far I have come in the past three months. Through a lot of "trial and error", a lot of questions for my fellow WA members, who are so amazing at coming up with the answers so quickly and thoroughly, and a lot of "hair pulling", my website is finally at a stage where I can say I am pretty proud of it. Is it the best out there? Far from it! But I did with the help of WA and I am so happy I have them behind me!

I still have lots and lots to learn, but I am ready and willing and I know I can do it. I came this far and I will keep on going!

Hi Susan,
I too am 60 and yes I agree 100% with you, you'll do well :)

Thank you for the encouragement, Billy! :-) You are great! Susan

I am close to my 60s and I have a lot to learn ... I saw my first computer in 1976 when it was punch cards ... this community is the best ... if you want to learn and are not afraid to ask questions you will find answers ... don't quite cause you will never win ... cheers ... Michel ... another day another lesson learned ... :0)

All great advice Michel, thank you! I am never afraid to ask for help. I have asked a few times so far and am still amazed at how friendly and how quick people are to jump in and help out. You are right, the WA community is THE BEST!

I'm not too many years older than you, so I feel your pain. Though I've been online for about 8 years or so, I still have so much to learn. I'm here to help if I can. When I took computer programming in college, they were teaching Pascal language. Hope I spelled that right. That was my last programming class. But I love WP and I've started a few simple sites before, but never really finished them. Here I feel like I'll finally finish something. Best wishes. Keep at it!

Thanks ChipsMom! I'm sure one of these days you will surprise yourself and finish one of your sites! It gets easier and easier. Best of luck to you and much success! Thanks for your message! Susan

Hi Susan, Just read your blog and it's so similar to my situation, hopefully it will give some of the older generation some encouragement. I'm sure it's a little harder for us as we weren't born into the computer era. Have a look at my blog Attitude of Mind and see what you think. You've been with WA a little longer than me and I hope I've progressed as much as you after 3 months! Best, Ches

Hi Ches! I really hope it does encourage some of those who are in the same situation. At first I felt like I was the only one but then I realized I was not. It's a matter of sticking with it and having patience (which I sometimes am not that good at--HA!) and to NOT give up. I am sure you will start seeing progress and like I've been saying, you will want to keep learning more. I am really anxious to keep learning more and hope it's not too far "over my head"! I'm going to give it a shot though.. Keep up the good work and good luck to you! Susan

Great post Susan!

Thank you, I appreciate it!

No problem :)
