Podcasting for Beginners

I'm writing this blog for those who want to start podcasting and describe my first couple of months of podcasting independently. First of all, if you're going to make big bucks from podcasting, this isn't for the faint of heart. I have been online broadcasting off and on since around 2010 and started on an online broadcast dubbed "Freethink Radio" with a few online activists such as Harry Link, Howard Nemazier, Chris Freedom Flowers, Nelson Legacy, Cari Lee Miller, Pam Suggs, Justin Cooke among others.

There's a lot of work that goes into online broadcasting and podcasting, such as outlining the ideas and topics you want to talk about for the upcoming episode, scheduling if you're not on a regularly scheduled show, getting interviews lined up, writing show notes, recording an opening trailer, creating music or finding a copyright-free, royalty-free song for your show, writing quality articles, and finding information, researching your guests and the topics you will be discussing. I don't like a half-assed, thrown-together show, and it shows in my quality from previous episodes with "Revising Reality." I put hours of work into researching for each episode I co-hosted, and still, to this day, I take the time to do the work necessary to make a good show for my new podcast, "Music Is Life."

I'm thankful that I started with a good, decent group of people who took their broadcasting seriously and showed me the ropes in creating my shows, and the knowledge I have retained after all these years still shines through.

one of my fellow broadcasters, Harry Link of Truth Broadcast Network and D2NWO, got me into my first blog, entitled "Freedom To Be In the Know." I began that blog around 2014, 2015, and I am seriously considering going back to pick up that old blog that used to be hosted on BlueHost and do it again. Why not?

If you want to begin n podcasting, be mindful of the time you have to invest, and do yourself a favor and block out several hours per week, depending on how many episodes you want to do per week, and make that your only focus during that time. Be sure to turn off your cell phone and tell your family and friends that you will not be available during those hours.

Treat your podcast like it's a paying source of income, and it will be. Treat it like it's a hobby or game, and that's all it will amount to for you. You get what you put into it, essentially. I want to be taken seriously, so I'm serious about my stuff—no time for bollocks, BS. With the ambition and passion for the topics and people I interview, I won't play about what I put my time and energy into.

Another thing is don't interview people if you can't get along with them outside of podcasting. Recently, I had a guy that wanted to interview. Still, he had me feeling uncomfortable in my DMs, asking me questions that were out of pocket and irrelevant to any podcast I would professionally put together. So, I messaged him and told him how I honestly felt, which was that I could not and would not feel comfortable interviewing with him because I thought his behavior messaging me was inappropriate. I promptly blocked him from my social network and moved on from the situation. I have had several great interviewees since then.

One more thing, invest in some good equipment, such as a microphone for starters. I'll be posting again on some good microphone choices.

Hi Crystal 💎,

Thanks for sharing the pros and cons of podcasting. I love ❤️ it!

You give some profound advice. I plan to use it towards what I’m doing here with my blogs and post in the land of WA as well.

Keep up the good work!

More Blessings,

Kathy🦋

You make several important points in your post. The one that resonates with me the most is to treat your podcast like a business. You have shown that you are serious about what you are doing. I believe that with your will and determination that you will be on top in no time at all. Your experience in other areas gives you the discipline to do what is necessary to move forward.

It's wonderful to see your broad spectrum of experience.

I've thought about podcasting, but gravitated towards video instead.

Thanks for this incredible peek into podcasting and creating your own platform free of the conditioning of network broadcasting.

Stay on it; keep on thriving!
