One Of My Product Review Tricks

Last Update: January 27, 2019

Many WA members are building a business promoting the WA, which is defiantly a solid business to build.

And part of the building process is doing reviews of other products to drive traffic to your own WA website. Now there is no shortage of scammy, garbage products to review promising easy money. I know I review these products all the time.

So here's one thing I do when reviewing a new product. More often than not you'll see some sort of sales (pitch) video on the products home page.

And in most cases these videos are full of outrageous income claims, fake testimonials and false promises. And if you've come across any of these pages you know what I'm talking about.

Now a lot of times these video can only be paused, you can't rewind back or anything like that. And if you want hear something again you have to play the whole video again, which is a pain. And I've come across some vidoes that are 30 minutes long.

So here's what I do.

When I'm going to review a product that has a sales video the first thing I do is I record the screen, and for me I use camtasia.

Now I have the whole video inside my video editor and I can play it, stop it, back up, and even take screen shots of specific parts of text in the video to use in my review.

I always find a ton of stuff in this videos that I can use in my review, it's pure gold.

Hope this helps

I believe in you
Leo

Yup, I agree those type of videos are crap and I wouldn't trust the product if I couldn't fully explore their video without re-watching it from the beginning. Good tip and solution of products that might be worth showcasing but lack a viable video to illustrate it.

Thanks for sharing!

Hello Leo,

I hope you're doing well, thank you for your excellent blog post.

I have come across many of these videos over the years, it's actually very annoying that you can't go back to where you left off, you just have to hear the whole thing again! I have tried recording these type of videos through Camtasia in the past, however, the sound quality isn't very good. As I write this, I'm just thinking I probably need to put the microphone near the speakers to get a better sound? Or do you have a better way, please?

Have a great day.

It has nothing to do with your mic, simply record the screen - camtasia records everything through your computer.

Then use your head set or speakers to listen to the recording in camtasia.

Thank you for your reply, Leo, much appreciated. I must admit I haven't tried recording a video on the present version of Camtasia, which I believe is the latest, hopefully, this will be much improved, as in sound I mean.

Enjoy the rest of your day and thank you for your help, Leo.

I use camtasia 9 and the sound is perfect, it does also matter the type of sound card built into your mother board or external sound card that you have.

Hello Leo,

I just tested recording a video with Camtasia and it worked perfectly, including the sound, which is fantastic! I can't remember when I tried recording videos with Camtasia last, but it was probably a few years ago. Having said this, it could have been with another platform that I sometimes use called Easy Video Suite, the sound was definitely poor when I tried before.

Thank you for your tip, it really is appreciated.

Enjoy your evening.

Good idea Leon,

but why using a screencast video software and spend 300$ only for that? (30 days trail)

There are also free screencast softwares out there like: Screencastomatic, Camstudio, Ezvid, Expression Encoder, Jing, Webinaria or Google Hangout to name a few.

Now if you are making videos regularly yourself, then Camtasia can be worth the investment.

But for your use or making a video once in a while, I recommend to check out the free versions, as 300$ can be a lot of money for many of us and might not be needed for what we want to use it for.

Just my 2 cents to it.
Cheers buddy

Yes there all kinds of free screen cast software,

But you missed the point - I'm just using my camtasia software to record these videos so I can go through them over and over again to pull out information.

I'm not telling people to go buy this software. I'm a video marketer and video creator so I use my software everyday, I was just sharing what I do with it.

I got that and thank you for your share, however you didn't say that in your post here, thus seen for us as possible end users, who might be interested to do like you (we are possible no video editors :)) ) information of costs and possible alternatives would have added even more excellent value to your great post.

That is all. :))

Is this legal? You use their property to write a negative report.

I am not in this niche and not interested, but I am asking because I need such screenshots sometimes to describe a product (outdoor stuff). I am reluctant to do so if this is somebody's review, I assume this is a property which I have no right to use. But I do use this when I find a video by the brand behind the product. They would not mind I guess as I promote their item.

I've been doing this for years. This is my opinion, like all reviews it is your opinion.

I use the video so I can go through it over and over again to pull out information about the program so I can write my review.

I'll take a screen shot of the text they use in the video and if they use fake testimonials I take those screen shots and then back things up by showing that the person that is giving the testimonial is a paid actor from more often than not they are from fiverr.

I do not have an opinion about this, and I am not questioning what you are doing. I am just genuinely interested.

No I understand, but I find most low quality programs use these types of over the top, over hyped videos to steal peoples money.

Other positive reviews I do, don't use videos like this

Great suggestion, Leo! Never thought about that. In this new year, I find myself making cartoon videos for folks for their businesses and have been seeing a lot of different types of videos with some unbelievable content. I will certainly use your suggestion in the event I want to do a product review. Thanks!

What a great idea, Leo. We have found ourselves in the position you describe several times in the past. You know there is something you need to see again but can you endure the agony of watching the entire video again? Thank you for this simple solution.
