Giving Comments using Site Comment Function

Lately I have received a few comments that are actually website feedback instead and I have to disapprove it. If you are confused about how to give a decent comment, here are some guidelines.

1) Make sure your comment is relevant to the article or page that the user had requested comments for.

2) You need to read through the content and make comments (it can be question, answer or feelings) about a certain portion of the content. I tend to give my personal experiences if I can relate to it.

3) There are no bad comments as long as it is relevant. Do not be afraid of saying something nasty, the original poster should be able to rebuke if it is truly something that the original poster believed in.

4) Avoid generic phases such as 'It's a great article, I like how you write things' - Okay we all know we are great writers but if I write about wealthy affiliate, I expect comments to have ingredients about wealthy affiliate such as 'Wealthy Affiliate had strong reputation over the internet and it convinced me to join the program!' etc etc

Hope that helps, feel free to PM me if you want to ask anything, and please, don't give me website feedback on comments again, I hate to disapprove comments...

Confusion between Site Comments (intended to be 'engaging' content on your site) and Site Feedback (constructive inputs on your site that do not appear as a comment on your site) has been a problem since these features were added to our Site Rubix portal.

Any one not clear on the proper use of these features should do a WA search for clarification.

Great post, Leody! Sorry, I coukdn't resist...

It seems this is a topic worth repeating because some people just don't get it. I appreciate when people point out grammatical errors - even with Grammarly, I can make mistakes - but that should be sent as a PM, not posted on a page for all the world to see. Thank goodness we're able to edit.

One thing I like best about the WA community is that any disagreement is often handled offline in a PM, instead of messily in public.
Also, while I like Grammarly, I sometimes have to undo it's "fixes" because the sentence reads better the way I originally wrote it.

We are all here to help each other to succeed, I guess that is the most important thing about staying in Wealthy Affiliate :)

It does happen sometimes.

Thx, I appreciate when we respect that we are not always perfect.

Thanks

Thanks for bringing this up again. No matter how much it is written about; people are still giving feedback or comments that are not at all relevant to the post. It definitely bears repeating. Thanks for your guidelines.

Yes I realized that this topic had been covered in Wealthy Affiliate several times. However, I am still receiving a lot of 'feedbacks' in the comments section which I thought I should re-emphasize on it.

Yes thanks. :)

I've had to disapprove one comment because it was feedback and not a comment. Some people gave kind of generic comments but I didn't have the heart to disapprove them. I have two kind of unique niches which not everyone is familiar with.

I had to disapprove several over the last few days! :\

I actually feel that giving the ability to comment should be given to people who have been on WA for at least a month. I certainly didn't know the difference between a comment and feedback until getting it wrong 3 times. I did 3 wrong and 7 perfect and now I am not allowed to comment. I feel that is unfair, as I wasn't given learning curve time. Newbies are given instructions of which they follow and a lot of time with no training, so I feel this should be changed. After 2 months if you haven't learned how to comment then take away the privilege. Time in WA should be counted and not amount of times you commented should be counted when you are new. Then my commenting on posts was terminated, I put the article it in the post area and got called out because it because I didn't know the Posts was a public forum I thought it was in house. That information should be in bold letters as newbies are busy doing lessons and excited about accomplishments not small writing. Or put that in the training, if you are a new person this is how you comment. Hope Kyle sees this, I have written him several times no answer so hope he sees this. This is more to him than the community. Training should include everything not some things. Not angry, just informing the powers that be.

I personally thought that maybe an example will be good.

That is my example

Yeah, that has happened a few times with me. It can be a real bummer.

Yes man, hate to hurt's someone's comment approval percentile.

The difference between Site Feedback and Site Comments can be confusing for NewBs. I was pretty confused at first. The explanations are only available when you look at the page a certain way. They should be more clear. Or change Site Comments to Site Post Comments or something else. For many people, especially for ones whose native language is not English, the two phrases are pretty much identical. They are thinking "Site Comments" means "Comments" on the "Site".
Thanks for writing this up. Hopefully, it will help some people.

Yes I guess that must be it. Hopefully this can help others!

Totally agree with you! It's only very recently that I've disapproved comments as I didn't want to be seen as "mean" to the commenter, but I've taken the stance now that if I don't see some sort of engagement with the specific post's content, I have to disapprove.

Hey there, sometimes we just have no choice to disapprove some comments. I had some comments disapproved too which I will reflect what went wrong.
