Quicky Writing Tips!

I've read several blogs and, while often the content is valuable, I see a few things that might really help the reader connect better.... in my opinion.

1- I've read many blogs where the writer switches back and forth between first and second and/or person. Whether you start out writing in the first, second or third person... and while any can be used, once you start with one, like a good friend, stick with that person.

First Person

First person is “I, me” and “we".

  • I love tequila!.
  • Give me another shot!
  • We have run out of Marguerita Mix!

Second Person

You use the second-person point of view to address the reader, as I just did. The second person uses the pronouns “you,” “your,” and “yours.”

  • You need some taquila.
  • Where is your Marguerita?
  • This drink must be yours.

Third Person

This is the most often used for writing. Authors of novels and such use “he,” “she,” or “it” when referring to a person, place, thing, or idea.

  • He/She doesn't need another margarita.
  • It's time for another shot of tequila!

Most people don't even realize they are guilty of jumping from one person to another. Check your writing!

2- I love adjectives. They are so fun to play with! Adjectives are words that give juice by describing or modifying another person or thing in the sentence.

Adjectives

  • I went to a party and had a margarita.
  • I arrived at the party in my Saturday night best where I was greeted by the hostess who handed me the perfect margarita on the rocks in a salt-rimmed glass.

As important as adjectives are, don't be redundant with them. We all have our favorite words to describe things but be wary that you aren't using your favorites over and over again. Bring in or borrow new ones and mix 'em up!

  • It was such a hot party and they served hot margaritas and there were all these hot babes there.
  • It was an epic party and they served the perfect margaritas and there were so many gorgeous women there!

3- Don't forget my leetle friend, Grammarly. I've mentioned this app before in a previous blog. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/leaningwest/blog/spelling-grammar-punctuation-genie-really A great tool for checking your spelling, grammar and more.

My 2 cents.... worth every darn, round, worn out, copper, penny! ;)

Margaritas are great no matter if they are in first, second, or third person. Just don' mix your drinks. They will catch up with you. Ha..ha

Just kidding that was very good post with great tips. This one I put in the save file. Thanks for the post

That is so funny, Larry, and I wish I'd used that analogy! You shouldn't mix your 1st, 2nd or 3rd persons, just like you shouldn't mix your drinks! Perfect!!!

See how witty you are!

Thank you for sharing your tips, really appreciate it:)

I'm glad you found value in this! I think that many of us get focused on our subject matter and forget some of these little things that can really transform a good thought into something engaging and fun to read!

That's first person, BTW! LOL!

Have a wickedly great week!

Thank you, have a great week Carolann:)

Seems to me like you love Margaritas:)

Ha ha ha ha! I am not as much a fan of margaritas as I am a good sipping taquila but I figured it to be a more fun subject than using socks.

I trust in the Universe that Monday will be so very good to you. I hear you deserve nothing less.

Here's to agave!

This is good advice & info, will keep for future reference!

I'm really grateful as I embark on this new adventure, that my dad was a teacher who was constantly correcting me and that I had a great 8th-grade English teacher and Mr. Standiford for an amazing high school English class. Probably helped that I've been an avid reader from the get-go.

I look forward to catching up on reading other's work today as I finally have a free day!

To Mondays and not having to go to work!

.....c

Yep, my mum was an English teacher too! I've forgotten a lot though so it's good to review writing skills!

Great tips. Thanks! M

Thanks for stopping by, Cookie! I'm going to be having fun today peeking into everyone else's stuff.

I can't wait!

Where's my coffee?

I just wish I could find one that would clean my house!!! Ha ha ha!!

Grammarly is definitely a great tool to have. It makes free writing so much easier as it follows every word, sentence and paragraph highlighting where you are going wrong.

You've given me the bug now. I don't need to convince you how good it is :D.

Also, If you do find an app to clean the house, I am next in line to use it!!! Ha ha... :D

Have a great day.
Lis.

Right???

Oh, sister, if I find that app, I will let you know.... I will let you know!

Happy Monday to you!

Thanks so very much! Linda Ronstad, huh? That's a first but, I consider it a flattery. Wish I could sing like the woman! Joyfully, I have a melodic angel in my youngest child and that is a blessing every day!

Make it a great week, buddy!

Great tips! Thank you for this valuable reminder....I have to re-read some of my recent postings.....there may be some 'oops'.....hahaha

My goals in writing are two-fold.... either evoke some good feelings or impart some information of value. I'm so glad I hit one with this. I'm glad my dad was a teacher. ;)

You have a great talent....honext.
