Expectations Influence Your Reality
Your mind is an incredible thing.
From it springs forth all action you take - and the actions you take largely determine your fate.
The actions you choose to take determine virtually every outcome that matters in your life - at least the ones you can control - and some believe it goes far beyond even that.
This is why it is so vitally important to develop and maintain a better mindset if you want to do better in life. With it, all is possible for you.
This idea is not a new one either.
It is as old as the written works of mankind, if not older.
While mentioned in the bible and in various other texts - perhaps one of the most well-known authors was Napoleon Hill. Perhaps you already know of Hill and his work of his lifetime - and if so now is a good time to do some rereading.
If on the other hand by some chance you have not heard of him before - do yourself a huge favor and research him and then get his books and start reading.
While there are videos and audios too - the books are especially important.
Practical Applications In Real Life
I love self improvement and continuous learning.
Over the year I have read and studied countless books - some to the point I have worn them beyond repair from going through them so many times. Others have so many notes and annotations of various types that my scribbles almost exceed the text in word count!
But there is one thing that I always look for and seldom ever find - that is SPECIFIC real-world advice on exactly what to do next!
Even as much as I like Hill and his work, and even though he is more specific than most - some of his stuff is still damn near cryptic and leaving you to figure it out on your own.
That's why when I teach people classes - especially in-person life training - I am very specific about what needs to be done next and then after that and so on - step by step by step.
Let me clarify a few things for you.
Nothing worth learning or doing is ever going to be mastered in a few YouTube videos or a two-hour online course. While those things are good starts and they begin to lay a foundation of knowledge - that is all it is - just a foundation.
On that foundation you must continue to build - and then develop your own knowledge, skills ad abilities over time by continuing to study and learn - and most importantly - by putting all that learning to use through action. Then practice, practice, and practice some more.
Here is a key - understand that all things take time - the specific time is measured in terms of the specific task being learned and the training methods and the practice time applied.
For example, I can train you (so long as you are at least of average intelligence and physical ability) to drive a tractor-trailer to a level of competence that you can take and pass your state skills exam to get a Commercial Drivers License in two weeks.
However, four weeks would be better - and less stressful on YOU!
How do I know this? A lot of experience over many years training real people in the real world - and some trial and error.
Many years ago I set up and ran a truck driver training school. I based my training program on several models - first was the military which I had more than a decade of experience in as both student and instructor. Secondly was the training program of the company I started with - which was also in part based on military models.
I figured if I cut out any and all B.S. and developed specific instructor guides that covered each training day and each hour of each day I could reduce the model course by about half.
So that is what I did. I signed up my first four students, collected their tuition - and set about training them as efficiently and relentlessly as I knew how. They all passed they all got their licenses and they all will never forget that class. It was more like military boot camp than trucking school - and I pushed them to the brink of their abilities physically. By the end of the day on day two, their left legs were shaking trying to depress the clutch pedal.
A long story shorter - while it is possible and was possible - that time frame is too hard for most people most of the time. They trained twelve plus hours five days a week for two weeks and had homework on the one weekend they had.
So I extended the training by two weeks and that worked much better. You still have a ton of stuff to cover - and practice - but for most people most of the time that time frame is realistic.
Even after that though there is more time needed to become competent at the craft of truck driving. About another two to four weeks of on t road training while delivering real loads.
Then about one to two more years of practice actually doing the work - and that varies by the quality of the initial instruction and the effort on behalf of the student/trainee.
What the Heck Has That to Do With YOU and Your Online Business Training?
Quite a lot actually.
You see, even if you have zero interest in trucking - the training principles are the same. For everything, that can be taught and learned and then practiced to a level of competency - there is always a time requirement - and comparative analysis.
Why does this concept matter?
Realistic expectations. A trucking student who does not know these things and expects to be able to run any load anywhere in a week or two from the first time they ever touched a truck is delusional and it simply isn't going to happen for 99.999 percent of the people who try it. In fact, for most, it will end badly!
So if they know the sequence and select the right training and then give themselves the time it takes to develop their own skills they will eventually become very good at the craft of driving professionally. On the other hand - if they do not know this they will likely become overwhelmed and frustrated and quit long before they complete that first year...
See how that works?
The same is true with you with your online business or anything else you try to do.
You need to know the time that is typically needed and then allow yourself that time - but do the work during it too! Do that and you will do BETTER!
Conclusion and Closing Remarks
If you want to do better than that building your own business here are a few things to consider and apply;
1. Treat your business like a business (seriously) and not like a hobby
2. Commit yourself to doing whatever it takes to make it work over time and then put in the time that is needed - and it will probably be a heck of a lot longer than you may have initially thought it would take (Probably going to take you 1 - 2 YEARS of steady hard work before you see any real traction consistently - and yes I know that is not what the guru garbage peddlers are telling you!)
3. Expect that it will take that time and that work - but also expect IF you put in that time and that work then you WILL achieve SUCCESS too!

Using Common sense in setting expectations is something we all have to learn. Maybe your post will help someone who is still struggling and concerned because they are taking longer.
