Sawdust in my veins

I've been exploring a new niche. Actually, its an old niche for me.

When Thanksgiving rolled around, I found a Cherry Tree. Like Abe Lincoln, I cannot tell a lie, I didn't cut it down. It was already on the ground. 14 feet of it were still uncut.

That didn't last. If you want to read the whole story, check this out.

As always, comments are appreciated.

Once that job was put to rest, or stickered and stacked. I started on another piece of Cherry that I found lying around on the forest floor.

This time is was time for some Christmas shopping. My definition of Christmas shopping is a bit different this year as I really didn't have a shop to work in, just a power plug and a carport.

I started by roughing out with a small chainsaw. Then I moved to an angle grinder with a 36 grit sanding wheel. Eventually, I refined that down to a set of chisels and a mallet.

So, curious about what I'm talking about? Power Carving!

Here's the result.

I think it came out pretty good. It was well received on Christmas Day. That is the important thing.

Today I started on a large trunk of Yellow Pine. Not power carving but searching for some timber for a rather elaborate porch swing. Stay tuned.

Craig, Awesome pelican. Thanks for sharing. Jay

Nice to know that someone recognized what it is.

Nice story and great skills!

Very impressive and a great job Craig. There has to be a certain pride in fashioning something like that out of raw material. You are the man with the plan. The pine should be easier as it is a softwood!

Cherry isn't overly hard. It is my favorite wood. Smells good too.

That is just gorgeous. There sure was a lot of work involved. Very interesting story. The outcome was sure worth it.

Wow! No word can describe. It's so AWESOME.

Very very good. I love it Craig!
You must be very proud of yourself.

Happy New Year!
David
