It's All About Giving Yourself TIME to Succeed
Hey Everyone,
I want to share a bit about my early journey in the online world to give you some perspective. I often get asked, "How long did it take you to earn revenue?" (in fact, one of the most common questions I get from newcomers).
When I started, I faced that same question, and here is what I learned.
My Early Journey in Online Business.
When I began my online business, I did not expect to make a big income right away (although it would have been nice). I gave myself time to build a solid foundation.
Back in 2002, it took me around 30 days just to learn HTML and build my first website. And it was butt ugly lol. Even though it was hard work, I was focused on creating something lasting rather than chasing quick validation.
It took me three months to make my very first sale online. Those three months were all about working hard on my website and business, even when there wasn’t a big financial reward. I believe that if I had given up in those early months, I wouldn’t be here today. In fact, I know.
My Key Takeaways
- Give Yourself Time: Success online does not happen overnight. Allow yourself enough time to build your foundation, even if your first income is small.
- Focus on the Foundation: Every small step, like learning new skills or building your website, is essential. Over time, those small successes will snowball into larger achievements.
- Avoid Shiny Object Syndrome: Many people jump from one idea to another, hoping for quick success. Stick with it. Your dedication will pay off as you learn the formula for success.
- Experience and Efficiency: With time, you gain more skills and can work more efficiently. This improved efficiency is what helps you scale your business.
Be Realistic About the Process, Achieve Success.
Whether you are just starting out or you are already seeing some success, remember that every successful online entrepreneur began where you are now. The hurdles and challenges you face today are part of your journey. Embrace them, learn from them, and keep pushing forward.
I would love to hear your feedback. Whether you’re just getting rolling or you’re already successful online. Drop your thoughts in the comments below.

Hello Kyle, A very important aspect that you are presenting here, I would add "as usual."
In many cases I like to back to the basics. The main question, I think, is why am I getting into this kind of business?
Meaning, why does a person become a doctor, yes it brings in money. But is a person becoming a doctor to get money or help heal. The same for an engineer, or any other profession.
In all online trainings, including the wonderful training here at WA, the main advice given, is choose something that you love doing. Choose something, that you would love to help people with.
Once that is established, the focus becomes helping people. I think the more genuine the passion of contribution, the greater the chances for success, and the meter becomes the efficiency and professioncy of helping others.
If the meter is the money, and money alone. I think the chances for success are slim. Of course there are other industries that are directly related to money such as trading and investment. Even in those if you don't love those areas, and you are just there because other people are making money there, then the chances of success are not only slim, but self destruction can be one of the outcomes.
Exactly right. People tend to make it more complex than it needs to be. If you can help people, you can succeed. In any niche. Online or offline.
The problem is most people view success as their ability to sell, and then they resort to "selling" to people. Nobody likes that. All the most successful and sustainable businesses I have ever run into are people driven businesses with a focus on helping people.
Kyle,
I like your attitude about giving yourself time to succeed. Most people give up before they have a chance to taste success. But by having the attitude that this is a journey and that true success takes time, we can actually take the pressure off of ourselves to have that immediate gratification and even allow ourselves to taste success along the way. Because as long as we are working toward our goals that itself is success.
Most people do. I have worked with 100,000's of people over the years, and those that I have seen fail are those that quit. There is actually is no other way to fail.
Those that succeed at the highest rates, tend to be willing to work harder when things get more difficult and push through the bumps in the to road to achieve success on the other side faster. :)
Hey Kyle, thank you for the pep talk. My major problem is the shiny objects syndrome. Sometimes I don't even realize I am walking through that syndrome. Prayer always helps me to come back to reality when I've gotten off on a wrong trail and have moved away from what I should be doing.
There are more than enough distractions on this planet to fill the bucket list of every human being alive.
Thanks for calling attention to the constant rush trap we fall into that only causes frustration.
Yeah, it is easy. You see someone "boasting" about something, and it draws you in. The reality, these shiny objects tend to be a dead end road 99% of the time, and also, the shiny objects will detract you from doing what you are doing (so that ends up failing as well).
Focus on what you are doing, have a vision, and reach to make that vision a reality....whatever it takes (it will be worth it). ;)
I too keep thinking when am I going to make my first sale so this is good to remind myself to be patient and keep focused on long term goals and than a short term sprint.
I’m currently at a bump in the road where I’m struggling to sign up for affiliate programs but I’m sure if I keep chiselling away I’ll get this sorted.
Either way I’m enjoying my journey of building my website out and learning as I continue on my marathon.
Yeah, patience is a virtue. In the early stages you are establishing your foundation of your business, and prepping it for long term success. You are also learning high value skill sets in the process as well.
Affiliate programs like established looking and feeling sites, so they may base their application process entirely on the "look of your website". Do you have 20+ posts on your website, do you have a proper logo, imagery, and menu structure. These are things that can positively impact your approval rating with affiliate programs.
Keep at it Steven, you are doing great! :)

Great video Kyle,
I have had my site up for around 7 months now, (and am working on my second site) and I have made a little money but not a lot. I have had times where I wanted to give up.
I look at my website, look at all the work I have put into it, and I know from experience that giving up is simply not an option.
When I started my handmade business a few years ago, (not here at WA), it took me a long time (I am talking a few years) to finally become successful at it and this was due to finding someone who was great at advertising my website. If I knew then, what I know now from the amazing Wealthy Affiliate training, I would have found success much faster.
So, for those of you who are new to WA, there are many many successful people on our WA site so hang in there and keep on working. Ask all the questions you want. I have never asked a question that was not quickly answered. There is always someone here who will know the answer.
It may take you a few months or a year to see income but in the end, it is worth all the effort you can put into your business.
Thanks again, Kyle, for another highly inspirational video!
Mike
