It's All About Giving Yourself TIME to Succeed

Hey Everyone,

I want to share a bit about my early journey in the online world to give you some perspective. I often get asked, "How long did it take you to earn revenue?" (in fact, one of the most common questions I get from newcomers).

When I started, I faced that same question, and here is what I learned.

My Early Journey in Online Business.

When I began my online business, I did not expect to make a big income right away (although it would have been nice). I gave myself time to build a solid foundation.

Back in 2002, it took me around 30 days just to learn HTML and build my first website. And it was butt ugly lol. Even though it was hard work, I was focused on creating something lasting rather than chasing quick validation.

It took me three months to make my very first sale online. Those three months were all about working hard on my website and business, even when there wasn’t a big financial reward. I believe that if I had given up in those early months, I wouldn’t be here today. In fact, I know.

My Key Takeaways

  • Give Yourself Time: Success online does not happen overnight. Allow yourself enough time to build your foundation, even if your first income is small.
  • Focus on the Foundation: Every small step, like learning new skills or building your website, is essential. Over time, those small successes will snowball into larger achievements.
  • Avoid Shiny Object Syndrome: Many people jump from one idea to another, hoping for quick success. Stick with it. Your dedication will pay off as you learn the formula for success.
  • Experience and Efficiency: With time, you gain more skills and can work more efficiently. This improved efficiency is what helps you scale your business.

Be Realistic About the Process, Achieve Success.

Whether you are just starting out or you are already seeing some success, remember that every successful online entrepreneur began where you are now. The hurdles and challenges you face today are part of your journey. Embrace them, learn from them, and keep pushing forward.

I would love to hear your feedback. Whether you’re just getting rolling or you’re already successful online. Drop your thoughts in the comments below.

Kyle,

I like your attitude about giving yourself time to succeed. Most people give up before they have a chance to taste success. But by having the attitude that this is a journey and that true success takes time, we can actually take the pressure off of ourselves to have that immediate gratification and even allow ourselves to taste success along the way. Because as long as we are working toward our goals that itself is success.

Most people do. I have worked with 100,000's of people over the years, and those that I have seen fail are those that quit. There is actually is no other way to fail.

Those that succeed at the highest rates, tend to be willing to work harder when things get more difficult and push through the bumps in the to road to achieve success on the other side faster. :)

Hey Kyle, thank you for the pep talk. My major problem is the shiny objects syndrome. Sometimes I don't even realize I am walking through that syndrome. Prayer always helps me to come back to reality when I've gotten off on a wrong trail and have moved away from what I should be doing.
There are more than enough distractions on this planet to fill the bucket list of every human being alive.
Thanks for calling attention to the constant rush trap we fall into that only causes frustration.

Yeah, it is easy. You see someone "boasting" about something, and it draws you in. The reality, these shiny objects tend to be a dead end road 99% of the time, and also, the shiny objects will detract you from doing what you are doing (so that ends up failing as well).

Focus on what you are doing, have a vision, and reach to make that vision a reality....whatever it takes (it will be worth it). ;)

I too keep thinking when am I going to make my first sale so this is good to remind myself to be patient and keep focused on long term goals and than a short term sprint.
I’m currently at a bump in the road where I’m struggling to sign up for affiliate programs but I’m sure if I keep chiselling away I’ll get this sorted.
Either way I’m enjoying my journey of building my website out and learning as I continue on my marathon.

Yeah, patience is a virtue. In the early stages you are establishing your foundation of your business, and prepping it for long term success. You are also learning high value skill sets in the process as well.

Affiliate programs like established looking and feeling sites, so they may base their application process entirely on the "look of your website". Do you have 20+ posts on your website, do you have a proper logo, imagery, and menu structure. These are things that can positively impact your approval rating with affiliate programs.

Keep at it Steven, you are doing great! :)

Thank you, Kyle, for sharing your online business journey. I know nothing comes easy; you've got to put in the work, the time, and effort. There are things I am not getting together, but I am not giving up. Step by step, you will never learn everything all at once. I don't mind the journey, for I am not giving up. I didn't know I would have a website, even though I think about it all the time, much less writing content and posting it on my website. I am new to it, but I must say I have come a far way to reach where I am now, and you, Kyle, all make this possible for me can't tell you how much I appreciate what you have done for me, and I'm sure many other in the wealthy affiliate family testimony will be just like mine when they look back where they are now and because of your motivation, advice, and tips make all this a dream fulfilling.

So awesome, you have come a long ways, and you will continue to gain more and more traction as you move forward. If there is one virtue that is truly required to achieve success with anything, it is patience. :)

Thank you for sharing, Kyle! This is an encouraging reminder. It has been one month since I actively started building my business here, and at times thoughts come that want to bring doubt about whether I'm going to see profits, but I have decided to keep pushing forward for the long run. I see this as a long-term endeavor, not a quick sprint. Little by little I'm growing and making progress!

There is always this doubt when starting something new, and before it happens. Completely normal.

They zoom out and see the bigger picture. 5.6 BILLION people online (your potential audience). 6+ hours spent online per day on average (their usage). 8 TRILLION spent online (their spend).

You just need a very TINY piece of this pie to be very successful online. :)
