I'm Broken.

Hey folks,

Just a quick update here, I just wanted to let you know that I am not quite out of commission but my hand has been broken. I had a little accident at my baseball game last night and I ended up fracturing my pinky finger. Since it was a full fracture that they elected to do surgery on it which will be taking place later this afternoon.

Here's the picture below of my broken finger, you can see the third bone down in my pinky finger is fractured.

Since I probably won't be as efficient as I normally am typing, I just wanted to let everyone know that my responses are a little bit slower than usual that is why. I am getting used to dictation on my Mac and I'm actually typing this with dictation and it actually works pretty good.

I will report back after surgery when I have my new bionic finger!

Good luck Kyle - my son had an almost identical fracture in his AFL this season and was out of action with pins in his pinky for about 6 weeks or so, but is back firing on all cylinders again now (in fact has been a major influence on the team this year).

Heal fast, heal well.

Good luck with the surgery.

I tore the ulnar collateral ligament in my right thumb a few years ago. This required surgery to reattach the ligament and then a full cast up to my elbow once the stitches were taken out. My thumb was totally immobilized for 6 weeks. This meant I could not even pinch my fingers together with my thumb.

And I am right handed!!

I had to learn to type with 1 hand which means I'm not very fast but I also use a software program Dragon Naturally Speaking that a speech to text program and some computers have it built in that does the same thing that compensates for not being able to type

Yes when I went in the hospital I got pretty good at talking into my Galaxy S7 Edge also. It's actually much faster than typing. Well I hope you heal quickly. I actually did not bleed out although I did lose all of my blood. It was replaced. Tomorrow I go in for the surgery that I had planned all along. Thank goodness I have a good private insurance.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that, Kyle. Anytime you need surgery, it's more than a little accident. In high school, a fast ball hit my daughter's bare finger, causing dislocation, fracture and crushed cartilage. It resulted in surgery where she ended up with a cadaver 'part' in the finger, wore a metal 'cage' on her hand for 4 months w/ 4 months of therapy. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

Kyle please take the time to heal and recover completely. You are always so committed and dedicated, and I personally thank you for your commitment. My prayers are with you so that you can heal completely. But please give it some time and delegate. Much Love from all of us.

You should recover from this handily Kyle. First if you are right handed it's easier not to put as much stress on it. Second it is longitudinal instead of all the way across the bone and only for a short distance.
I had a similar accident when I fell on the lip of a concrete step and it was splinted and up in 5 days. You're in my thoughts and prayers!

They're telling me six weeks recovery at this point. The finger was bent completely sideways after happened. lol Wasn't the prettiest of sights.

For a young entrepreneur like you cosmetics are valued. At my age functionality is my concern. Have to watch for metacarpal problems. Kick those assistants into gear LOL!

That looks so sore Kyle!
Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time especially as you go to have surgery done.
I guess the experience will give you a new outlook on training for diction! :-)

Let me know if you need any help creating training on how to dictate to your computer when your limbs are not quite free and I'll gladly help you research and create it!

Sincerely

Edu

:-)

It has been a brilliant learning experience us far. I actually thinking I am going to be utilizing it more.

I am surprised that with all the accidents I have had over the years the only thing that broke was I chipped my front tooth when I got thrown 30+ feet after my front brakes locked up while cycling down a hill.

But if it were a toe or finger, something that would effect everyday mobility, that would have really sucked. So I can only image how you must feel. Hope your mobility doesn't suffer too much.

Feel better.

It actually has been interesting thus far as I'm learning how to use dictation and I think it's an incredible tool. I have never had a neat or want to use dictation until now. So the disguise has been that this may be something that I will be able to apply to my day-to-day activities moving forward beyond when my fingers healed.

Good to hear you've been lucky in avoiding breaks over the years. I have only had two now they've both been in my right hand. lol

Seeing how dictation uses speech recognition, I wonder how it will spell niche? You pronounce it neesh and many here in the U.S. and elsewhere pronounce it nitch. How has that worked out for you so far?

Rich, as soon he has a bionic finger, he can hold up a beer bottle with his pinky finger. :P

Which dictation software are you using Kyle? It works very well, that can save me a lot of time typing my hundreds of blogposts to come. :))

I wish you a good and quick recovery, that pinky bionic finger will feel like new. :)

Stefan

I am just using the one that is native to my Mac computer. They have an enhanced dictation library that I'm using and it seems to be working pretty good.

Thank you Kyle,

I will try it out. awesome :)
