Hey everyone!

Welcome back to another 'Beer with Kyle' Friday session. As this tradition unfolds, we are going to get into the latest happenings within the platform here at Wealthy Affiliate, current events, and today, a hot topic on everyone's mind: the recent Google Core updates as of March 5th, particularly concerning AI-generated content.

As we navigate these updates together, I've got my Wealthy Affiliate beer glass ready, alongside a favorite local IPA, to discuss these critical changes and their implications on our online businesses.

In this casual yet insightful session, we'll cover:

  1. The Google Core Update Focus: A deep dive into how Google's latest update targets AI content farms, aiming to prioritize quality and usefulness over clickbait and automated content production.
  2. Wealthy Affiliate's Approach: Reflecting on how we, at Wealthy Affiliate, continuously brainstorm to enhance our service, taking inspiration from both member feedback and our own innovations to improve the platform.
  3. AI Content's Impact: Discussion on the balance between innovation and quality, highlighting how some AI-driven strategies, though initially successful, might face long-term sustainability issues.
  4. Historical Context: Drawing parallels with past internet "dark ages" and how Google has consistently aimed to elevate content quality while penalizing manipulation tactics.
  5. Open Forum for Feedback: Inviting the Wealthy Affiliate community to share their experiences, thoughts, and observations on how the update has impacted their sites, fostering a collective learning environment.

It's crucial to remember that genuine, high-quality content creation remains at the heart of successful online business strategies. Google's continuous updates reinforce this philosophy, and with every iterative update they continue to put the focus on this.

Have you noticed any changes in your site's performance following the update? Are you adjusting your content strategy in response? Let's open up the floor for a community discussion right here. Share any of your insights, questions, or any shifts in your approach in the comments below. :)

Thanks for the info. No matter what the industry, there are always those who will try to beat the system.

Hi Kyle,

I haven't been able to blog much on my site lately to be honest. But I at least have little bit of traffic coming into my website. But from 6 Mar, my traffic starts to decline and went near zero from 8 Mar. So I guess my website got obliterated even though I didn't use AI.

The only thing I could notice on GSC Core Web Vitals is that I started to see poor URLs from 28 Feb where it flagged LCP Issue: longer than 4s (mobile). And it lasted till 13 Mar and disappeared without me doing anything.

I briefly understand that this may also affect ranking?

And I notice that the SiteSpeed is set as Accelerated and I have switch it to Extreme and retested on PageSpeed Insight and it has improved.

I'm hoping to figure out what else am I being penalised on by Google, if there is a way to find out... any guidance on what I can do please?

It can if your pages/posts are running too slow, if you want to give me an example page on your website where you are getting these issues we can help you out here. There many be plugins/themes, or potential images on your website that are slowing it down, but at the end of the day, this may also be a "moot" issue and not a problem at all.

Let us know here Richard, overallI I wouldn't fret though.

Thank you, Kyle, can you help me to look at this page? PageSpeed Insight shows Performance of 53 for mobile and 66 for desktop.

Thank you.

Thanks a lot Kyle! I think it’s very important information for every webmaster. What I’m going to do is to create another article for my website where I want to walk people through the latest Google updates, so they will know why it is crucial to create not only helpful and informative content but VERY helpful and informative content. Thanks a lot mate!!!

Yeah, that would be really good and you can leverage any information that you want that you learned here. This is the type of content that can lead to others viewing you as an authority in the space (including Google).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kyle.

Low-quality content, whether AI or human-written, is unlikely to rank in the coming days.

On the other hand, I've published several AI-assisted content, with real insights. And they're ranking well.

I've been following your advice to create helpful content (although I sometimes strayed). And I've seen the results of both practices.

The problem for newbie affiliate marketers (and bloggers/writers), is they lack experience in telling if their content is useful.

What's your thought on that? How do you decide if a blog is 'useful'?

Exactly the case Kenny, and you definitely know your content. Google has made it clear that they allow AI content (in fact, "assisted" AI content they would have a tough time ever knowing), but they are after the most helpful and useful content for their audience, irrespective of how it was created.

Newbies want to do things fast, and are often times tricked into software that claims it is "hands free" and "instant" and "get rich quick". That appeal leads them to using automation tools that are being flogged out there, and unfortunately leads them down a path where they succumb to a Google update like this.

A blog is useful if it answers to the intent of the search, so as we review, edit and polish our content we need to hone in on exactly what that is. The AI Author platform here does naturally focus on that, but things like representative visuals and insightful data/analytics can help on top of this too.

love these videos,
if your website was going to be re-indexed does google tell you ahead to time?
when i use the ai content i always read thru the content and remove the content that you can tell was pulled from a dictionary. (words that only a genies can understand) and makes the paragraph easier to understand and i usually have to delete information because it likes to repeat it self. The AI writer does make your life so much easier.

Google doesn't "tell" you, other than the data that you would see about indexing within your Google Console account.

And you are using AI content correctly, as you are using it to assist you and do all of the heavy lifting. There is nothing wrong with using AI to assist you in the creation of helpful, quality content...but simply spinning out 1,000's of articles with pre-fab AI content is what Google is taking out.

thanks

No problem!
