Hi there! I’ve check my backlinks in Google by typing: “backlinks checks”. Any platforms, including Ahrefs, show that I have a backlinks frond weird websites:

Hey Efraim,

These are web directory type websites, very typical of the early-2000s.

What these websites do is link to various websites in a host of industries in the hope that someone will spot the links (as you have yourself).

The aim then is for you to enquire and the website owner will explain that the website has been solely created as a web directory and a place to write guest blog posts.

I'm sure they'll say something along the lines of "guest posts are great for backlinks, and backlinks are great for improved rankings and traffic".

This is partly true, although this largely depends on the authority of the website providing a backlink to you.

These websites are somewhat spammy, but they won't actually do your website any harm.

Personally, I would just leave it as it is and ignore them.

Google will typically ignore spammy backlinks anyway, and the only way you may get penalised is if you have gone after these backlinks yourself (Google can usually tell the difference between "unnatural backlinks obtained by the owner of the website" and a website just linking to another website).

There is a disavow tool within Google Search Console.

This requires you to upload a text file of all urls of backlinks you would like to be included.

Once uploaded, this is your way of saying to Google, "Completely ignore these backlinks, I want no relationship with these websites".

HOWVER

In truth, using the disavow tool should be an absolute last resort.

Essentially, using the disavow tool can sometimes be viewed as admittance of doing something wrong, i.e. "I obtained lots of backlinks unnaturally and against Google Spam Policies, I now realise my mistake and would like to remove them".

But, as I say, personally I would just ignore them, Google will know that you have no active relationship with these websites (as long as you haven't linked back to them).

Google realises that there are websites like this online and they know what they do.

In the grand scheme of things it won't cause your website any harm.

Furthermore, you can expect all types of weird and wonderful websites to link to as your website gets older and you add more content.

This is just the way of the internet.

Hope that makes sense?

Thank you very much for help! That makes sense!
