First Kiss, First Love, First Commission...

All the "firsts" that you never forget!

I reached a personal milestone the other day. (No, not my first kiss) My very first commision through Amazon Associates! Like many other "first commission" posts here at Wealthy Affiliate, my first was small....but it is mine.

Honestly, I can't believe how excited I am to have earned my first small commission. I worked in IT as a software developer and project mananger for over 20 years making six figures. And this one little comission comes along and gets me more excited than any paycheck I ever received.

I took a moment to reflect on why this is the case.

Why I am so excited by such a small amount of money?

I quickly realized that the excitement isn't about the money at all. For me it is about two things:

Sense of accomplishment - I did this on my own (with the support and training of WA of course). From the ground up, it was my ideas, my writing, and my persistence that resulted in this first win. Any recognition (no matter how small) for hard work should give you a sense of accomplishment.

Sense of potential - This is where I realized that I really can create revenue doing this. That the tip of the iceberg has been exposed, and that there is a LOT more under the water, just waiting to be uncovered by me. And unlike my "job" where I was paid in direct proporation to the hours I put it...this business can grow exponentially. The harder I work, the more my potential grows...not at a linear rate, but at an exponential rate!

Now, don't get me wrong...money gets me excited. I do look forward to watching my commissions grow in frequency and size! But this first one is special...future commissions, even though they WILL be larger, probably won't carry the same weight.

Anyway, I always like hearing about the success of others and the opportunity to get a little peek into what they did to get their success. I of course would like to return the favor. Here is a little about my site..

My website is all about the game of cornhole...how to play, BBQ recipes, where to get the best deals on board and accessories. In my family we like to play, so I figured it was a good niche to start with. I also planned on using this website as my "sandbox". A place to learn and try SEO and other marketing stuff. I never expected it to make money...I hoped, but never really expected it. I was using the website to learn.

All I did was follow the Wealthy Affiliate training, and put in the time to create good content.

The site has only been live for about three months, and I have averaged about a post every week (most of those came in the first month).

Traffic wise...I'm not getting a lot. But most of what I am getting is organic which is good. I haven't been as active with the site the last two months (I have been focused on the Super Wealthy Affiliate program) and it shows (traffic is down).

And here it is...the moment you have all been waiting for...my first commission of $1.12!

For those of your out there just starting out...hang in there! That first commission is right around the corner. When you get it, be prepared to be super charged. Use that energy to stay motivated!!!

My advice...complete the Wealthy Affiliate training. Follow it to the letter. Ask lots of questions of the community. And most important, STAY POSITIVE AND KEEP AT IT. This process takes time.
