I am writing a post for estimating rehab cost for house flipping. It's something I wish I would have been able to find when I first started. I am part way through and I realize
Hi Kim,
Shannon has pretty much nailed it.
Pillar posts are great for SEO.
I also quite like what Brian Dean from Backlinko does.
Many of his posts are "Ultimate Guides" and they are regularly 10,000+ words.
However, he also converts the posts to PDF format, offers the PDF near the beginning of his post, with a simple message like:
"Haven't got time to read everything now, then download my PDF and read it when you have time".
This allows him to collect subscribers, as well as getting his content onto people's hard drives.
Double score.
Additionally I can't remember exactly who the WA member is, but I believe they have a site about sea creatures, e.g. sharks, etc. They typically write a couple of posts a month now, typically in the 15,000+ word range.
As long as your sticking to the subject matter and providing information that your reader will appreciate, then it's all good.

Hey Partha,
Thanks! I like the PDF idea. I could also make an easy check list PDF for people to download and use as they walk through potential flips. Thanks for the great idea!
Kim
Actually, long pillar posts (as they're called) are very good for your site and SEO. Google loves long content. That being said, if you seem to go off on tangents and cover more than one topic, it may be better to split it up into more than one post.
You want to cover the topic of the post exhaustively but not meander into other topics, if that makes sense.
Best, Shannon
Thank you, Shannon!
That's great advice. I'll make sure to stay on topic.
Have a great day, Kim

Hi - you can use a plugin for a table of contents. I use Table of Contents Plus, or you can try Easy Table of Contents.
Hi Diane,
I have never done a Table of Contents before this will be my first time. I will defiantly be checking those out. Thank you for letting me know about those plugins!
