What does Success mean to You?
- The definition of success will mean for many people different things and to delve into this would be, quite frankly, a nonsense even to try. This is not the intent of this post.
However, we all here at Wealthy Affiliate want success with what we are doing, one way or another. Some can't wait and want everything done in less then six month, meaning, be at the top of their niche, with the money earning who also comes with it. And this is fine, I would be the last person who would deny someone such success in a short period of time.
Others, like myself, are taking it a bit slower and this is also perfectly alright. There are no time frames which "have" to be met. People like myself, have still other priorities to taking care of.
Some still have a full time job, others (me) taking care of an ill loved one, others may take some time off now and then and will pick up again where they left . But, I do believe that we all have one big goal in front of us and this is reaching and having SUCCESS.
THIS IS WHAT SUCCESS MEANS TO ME
As a Life Coach for Women, I experienced it many times the misconception of reaching, gaining and having success, when I ask my clients in how they like to reach their goals.
I will spare you the details, but this is more or less what I will tell my clients in how I see Success can and will be achieved. It is all in the numbers.
We hear it all the time that you have to know what you want. What are your goals/aspirations? What do you have to do for it etc. And it is true, absolutely true, you have to have a concept, a plan first and the knowledge in how to execute it.
So far, no arguments here. The argument coming from me is, once again, in the numbers.
I have read a few books on success over the years before joining WA, and the result was more or less always the same 10% Inspiration/dreaming and 90% (hard) work.
I totally disagree. The numbers so fare are correct, however in revers they look much better, here is why:
- 90% Inspiration/ Dreams/ Imagination/Creativity, Vision
If nothing is there, nothing will ever come out of it, no matter what one will love to achieve as a goal and having success. You have to have a vision first and most of all keep it the whole time you rolling towards success. It isn't done by choosing a niche (try to stay in WA terms as an example), doing great keyword research and all the other (important) as I call it, cold data work like SEO, Analytics, Organic Traffic etc.
You won't be successful when you lose yourself in it (unless this is your goal, than keep on it). Getting to caught up in the details in the beginning and losing sight of your actual goal, can backfire very quickly and can cost the vision you ones had. Which was, becoming an expert in your niche of expertise, which also is the "spark" for you to get started.
This Spark has to be fed with Joy, Excitement, Love and the Vision you have for yourself. If this spark dims over time or even dies, you will lose and this mostly ends in giving up. These 90% "are" the real work, actually this is the "real" hard work for you, feeding the spark and keep up the vision for your success.
- 10% work of learning, planning and implementing the knowledge in the right order at the right time
This is the part where you will feed your spark, the vision, which will become your success. Gaining the correct and important knowledge for your niche and implementing it at the right pace for your, at the right time.
If you stay focused (10%) and keep your vision (90%) lingering in front of you, the outcome only can be SUCCESS nothing more and nothing less.
SUMMARY
You don't have to be a believer, meaning, believing in self-development topics, spiritual topics, even knowing the Law of Attraction (also known as Cause and Effect).
But, you have to believe in yourself and this fact is true. If you don't believe in yourself no one else will. If you don't have the vision and feel the spark insight of you, no one else will.
If you don't do the "physical" work by learning and implementing what is necessary to achieve your goals, guess what? right, no one else will do this for you either.
I have seen many WA members having great goals and aspirations, climbing the Ranks here at WA in no time, and where even great contributor to the community. Now, most of them, who ones had started with me around the same time, have been gone. Vanished into thin air, never heard of it again.
I know, life can sometimes throw you a curve and other priorities are coming into focus. But, many also have given up because success wasn't there in three or six months as they had hoped for.
I wish for everyone at this time of the year, and it doesn't matter if you celebrate Christmas or not, that you listen to yourself and perhaps re-evaluate once again your gaols, aspirations and most of all the vision you once had and hopefully still have.
Feed your Spark, and YES, Egg Nog and Cookies are ok too.:)

Hummm...You know Sylvia, it was Thomas Edison who once said “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.” I kind of lived by that quote for a long time seeing that Mr. Edison changed the world forever with his light bulb; the reason why I'm typing at my computer.
But "90% Inspiration/ Dreams/ Imagination/Creativity, Vision" are as tempting as your Egg Nog and Cookies.
You have given me something to chew on for the holidays.
Have a great holiday!
See you around,
Eric
Thanks Eric, I know Edison's quote.
But, you also have to take in consideration in which time area Edison lived. Hard work was meant to be hard work, putting your nose to the grindstone for your whole life and have not much to show for in the end, was not uncommon.
Dreams and visions mostly have died, if they even had existed, before brought to life.
Edison was one of the "lucky" ones.
However, the mass consciousness has changed, thanks to motivational and inspirational Leaders like Tony Robinson, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay and others.
We do know now, that what we think and what we want has to match our visions, our dreams and that we have to put these visions into "physical" actions, to get the final outcome.
But, by doing so, we also are allowed to keep our fun and excitement about it. Putting hours of labour (hard work) into our projects doesn't mean sacrifice but does mean Joy and anticipation of what has to come.
This is how I see and feel it.
Merry Christmas to you and a Happy, healthy and successful New Year.
Sylvia
A happy and successful new year to you too. Thanks for the inspiration.
See you around,
Eric
Great post success has been many levels for me however in relation to numbers I see it as 80% hard work and 20% inspiration, belief and faith.. wish you a very happy Christmas and will you all the best for 2016
Yes, Katie I know, and this is the reason for many failure in people's attempt of being successful. The concept of hard work in my opinion has to be re-defined.
The "old" ways are changing, slowly but surely.
Merry Christmas to you too. :)

So true, Sylvia. Success means different things to different people. But your mantra of stay focused (10%) and keep your vision (90%) applies to everyone -)
Thank you for your support, it's very appreciated.
You are welcome Sylvia :-)
