It's A Business, Not A Job!
Building a successful online business takes commitment, focus, motivation, longevity, stamina, goal setting among many other key factors.
The rewards can be immense on many levels, not just financially. What's really important though is to not think of your online business as a job.
Many folks who get started building their online businesses come from a typical 9 to 5 job.
Because of this it's easy to think that when you start creating your website that you'll be paid a wage at the end of the 1st month.
It doesn't work like that. You may not see any income for a few months, or even a year or so.
It takes time to create sufficient original website content that will rank on the search engines and for your site to start making headway in the online world.
There are many other factors as well such as you developing new skills, branding and building an online presence.
The books that helped me to change my mindset from "9 to 5 job" to "owning a business" entrepreneur was Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad Poor Dad" and "CashFlow Quadrant."
These 2 books explain the difference between:
- Having a job
- Being self employed
- Owning a business
- Being an investor
Which quadrant to you currently fall into?
They really did make me think about the benefits of owning a business and then eventually moving onto being an investor.
Did you know that when you create and own your website you're investing in real estate? Well, "online real estate." :)
The aim of your website (online business) is to make residual and passive income. Over the years your site could be worth a lot of money if you decide to sell it. The two Rich Dad books go into detail about this and much more.
The biggest thing I took from reading those books was not to waste time thinking about being paid in the first, second, third month (and beyond) of starting an online business.
Instead, I had to focus on long term goals and any business income generated may have to be re-invested back into the business to sustain and scale it.
I highly recommend reading these 2 books, especially if you're starting out in creating your website and building your online business.
They're a real eye opener and I'm sure you'll get much out of reading them.

Yes, that's very true. It's definitely a long-term thing. If someone wants to get paid at the end of the week, they can write articles for Textbroker. I have done that myself in the past and it is a way to earn money quickly, just not loads of money and you're not building a business.

I have the 2 books and have read them both and now it is my time to start! I do pray things go quickly but until then, Wealthy Affiliates has plenty of courses for me to study!

Well, Ienstein started at 64 which is my age, and he was a super success at science and the Nobel peace prize at 72 Years old. Their's room for us guys too.

A job is always temporary. A business is a long term success.
I read Rich Dad and Poor Dad a few years ago, and I found it was extremely helpful. There are many powerful business strategies that worked in the past and still work today.
Most people go to college, get good grades and expect to make a lot of money after graduation. That's not true anymore.
I learned that 98% people end up working for someone, or work until 80 years old.
2% people live a wonderful lifestyle. They don't work 9-5 but they travel and have a lot of fun. The Internet business allows us to earn unlimited income. This is how we make money when we sleep.

I read these books several years back and they've always been relevant and a great resource to go back too. Awesome to hear that you've found them to be beneficial too. You can't beat the laptop lifestyle. :)
What you said about Real Estate and getting out of what you put into it is so true Kevin. Thanks for the recap of that information. We all need a real pep talk from an expert here. I am constantly getting rebbed up to making use of what time I use daily to making my content more meaningful and consistent in the three frameworks of what I am trying to help people achieve. What my business is going to be doing for my customers that are looking for my products in my niche. That I still need to make these Companys drop shipping my DIY kits to the customers. So I still have much work to be done.
Many thanks for your reply Susan. Yes there is much work to be done but it's definitely worth it. The key is to work through the training methodically and be in for the long term. You'll see the growth in your business over time.
