Is there such a thing as a Stupid Question?

I hear a lot of people apologising "sorry for asking a stupid question."

I know it can be intimidating sometimes, especially in live chat when experienced members seem to communicate in some sort of geek code. When the guys and gals in there start talking about pp this and cp that, I've no idea what they're on about!

I remember the first time I heard the word "list." My lists have always been shopping lists so I had to ask. Was it an inane question? Of course not, and now I know that a "list" can be something other than a shopping list.

Remember, all the successful members here got there because they asked questions, they didn't start off knowing all the answers.

So don't be shy, if you don't know something, ask, there is no such thing as a stupid question.

When I was working in the corporate world, I used to always tell my employees, there is no such thing as a stupid question, but there are a LOT of stupid mistakes. Avoid the stupid mistake and ask away! :)

Thank you for writing this! I remember being new here, knowing nothing and feeling a bit stupid trying to understand what everyone was writing about. I know it is hard to ask, but if you're not asking this journey will be much longer and more difficult.

Well said Kathy, I used to always say to the students there is no such thing as a stupid question, but there is a problem with some individuals ego, the interpretation of what is being asked, poor wording of the question and simply not knowing enough about anything to adequately phrase the question. How many times have I seen the latter in health related issues. Keep up the good work, best wishes AM

I remember trying to ask a question here, took a few replies before I actually understand what I was asking!

I know it is embarrassing sometimes to ask questions, but it can save making mistakes that cause a lot of time wasted and big problems to deal with at a later time. Thanks Kathy, I think that eases quite a few that tend to be reluctant and hesitant.

I was that annoying girl at school that was always putting their hand up to ask questions!

there's never a stupid question....
only the attitude that questions
asked are stupid

Thanks for your support, Kathy.

I just like what you said here....no such things as a silly question of course.

There's always a reason for the question in the first place, and the first in line will always be the first to ask, and the answer will save the next person the trouble of having to pose the same question.

That's why I rarely have to post any question, as I've found many answers reading all the post in the WA chats.....now if I can just make sense of all that geekery......

Thank you for giving us the answers Kathy, blessings........

Being the contrarian that I am, I have to say there are stupid questions. However, not when you need information pertaining to your business. It's all a mater of context. I would never apologize for asking a question that will move my business forward! :)

Lol, yes, you are right of course. :)
If someone asks me if I'm going horse riding when they see me wearing a riding hat, leading a horse and carrying a saddle, that is a silly question!

It's not a silly question, but the questioner is the clueless one, so their question was relevant hence they asked.
Dear dear, now we're getting deep into silliness!??

Good point Shirley. If was to ask; "What is the color of jealousy?" that would be a stupid question in my opinion. I have this habit of questioning everything and seeing both sides of an issue and sometimes I can't help but chime in :)

My late hubby was like that Steve, drove me round the bend sometimes!
Jealousy is green btw ;)

LOL! Figures you WOULD have an answer to that.....lol

And for the record, green is the color of envy :-)~ lol

But I always ask the question why the questioner is asking the question dear Steve.
I'm the "compassionate" type and will always look at the the one asking and have compassionate thoughts about why they ask the 'silly' question...thereby showing my own silliness (in retrospect).
Bless you...
Shirley

I can respect that approach Shirley. I enjoy watching and listening to debates, and when someone asks a nonsensical question and acts as though it is a "checkmate" when their opponent can't answer it, that drives me nuts!.....lol

You'll certainly go nuts if you keep letting them opponents get to you ....be compassionate like me dear Steve.....just enjoy the nonsensical question and don't get emotional 'bout it.....errr what were we talking about?

I try not to debate with others myself but I watch them or listen to them online. I don't think I would be a good participant in a debate because it would be hard for me to keep my composure long enough. Especially if my opponent tries to stump me with a stupid question :)

Like I said...be compassionate, It's their stupidity, their problem, not yours dear....never get into a debate! You're just too volatile.

Ok, I'll let you have the last word Steve!

Absolutely... Great thought.

A question is only stupid if you DON'T ask it.

Yes!

Yup!
