Top tips for engaging your audience

These are my top tips for improving your audience engagement.

Be yourself.

That is the best tip I can give anyone. Be yourself. People like authentic people (unless they are authentically jerks!).

When you write your blog posts you will find your voice. If you are engaging AI, your tools will begin to recognize your writing voice and you will be able to write faster and more true to your authentic self.

While I use the AI tools here and ChatGPT, I always, ALWAYS add in my own experiences with the topic. Even if the AI written story sounds "good enough" I want my personal stories in it.

Be consistent.

I wrote about this the other day, so I won't spend a lot of time on it. I will just say: BE CONSISTENT! Set a writing schedule and do your very best to stick with it. As I found from my readers on Vella, people like consistency whether that is posting daily, weekly or monthly or somewhere in between, people engage with you more if they know they can expect something from you regularly.

Use storytelling.

I think storytelling is another one of the greatest tools we have to engage with our audience. There is power in a good story with a good hook. Once you have "reeled" your audience, keep them coming back for more with more great stories. You may not think you are a storyteller, but all of us have stories to tell. We all have experiences to share.

These are the top three ways that I engage with my audience. Since I have been consistently posting on Facebook and now Pinterest I have seen my engagement grow. I have noticed a big uptick in my affiliate marketing Pinterest posts. The previous ones were mostly views on the horse training posts, but now the affiliate marketing posts are more than 10x the number of the horse posts.

What ways do you like to engage with your audience? If you don't mind sharing, please comment on them!

Thank you , Karin, for these tips. May tips 1 and 2. But story-telling is still a problem, having spent almost all my time in professional writing!! But I think I am improving as I continue to write for my website. Thank you, once again.
Joseph

Thank you, Jospeh. With story-telling, just imagine you are telling a story to your friend(s). Tell the story about whatever you are writing about. So let's say you have a fishing website. Tell your story about the big fish and what you used to catch the fish. If you are writing about coffee pots, tell a story about the best cup of coffee you ever had.

Tell an authentic story and you will get your point across. Make it simple. I know, sometimes it is hard not to write with my journalism hat on (I wrote for a newspaper at my day job). I have to really switch up my thinking so that I write for a specific audience like on my horse training website.

You will do fine, Jospeh. With practice you will be doing storytelling like a pro!

Hi Karin

Yup, my articles always contain my personal experience, with images of the guitars I’ve built and the amps I’ve modded. 😎

Frank 🎸

That is awesome, Frank! Having that personal experience certainly makes a difference, I bet. I know it does on my sites.

Karin

It’s fun, too, Karin 😎

I can imagine! 🥸

Know more than they do.

Abie

Great advice!

Very definitely good advice Karin.your blog is an extension of you so and by doing what you write about, will by default attract people to you and ultimately go on your list, which they will buy from

Thanks for sharing

Exactly. If they see your personal experience, they will know you are a real person just like they are and will naturally feel a connection with you. When I write for my diabetes site, people know and understand that I struggle with the disease as well and they feel they can talk to me about things related.

Karin

Absolutely spot on.
