I Blame It On The Doors
I could see the Late Morrison taking credit for a phenomenon known to virtually all of us.
What is "this?"
Being forgetful.
I know, it sounds like I have lost my mind, right? But allow me to elaborate.
Have you ever walked from one room to another room and completely forgot why you went to the other room?
Yes, I have, too. I do it all the time. I have to write lists of things, so I can remember!
Honestly, I was a little scared at first, because I thought maybe I was getting dementia or Alzheimer's (even before we really knew what those things were), but it turns out, our brain is doing its job when we forget something from one room to the next. It has to do with doors and doorways.
Our brains like to break things up into segments to record them as memories. According to research, walking through a doorway causes what has been dubbed the Event Horizon Model or the location updating effect.
According to this research, this also happens when we walk through an imaginary doorway.
Our brains have entered a "new space" so they are working on the information for the new space, not the one we were in previously (the location updating effect).
I merely typed in the phrase—doorways cause forgetting—to get the results and a whole first page of Google ranked articles with this information.
I'm not listing all the results and intricacies of the research simple because, mentally, I walked through a doorway and something else has "lit my fire." So I'm off, because "people are strange" and I am just a "rider on the storm."
Let's end on a note of levity, shall we?
An old man asks his wife a question one day. He asks her if she believes in the hereafter?
She says, "Of course. I always find myself in a room wondering what I am here after?"
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Best wishes,
Karin :)

Thank you for sharing this information!
And here I thought it was just an age thing!
I find myself forgetting things way too often, sometimes I think it is because I might have a bit too much on my mind.
Have a great weekend also!
Keep doing what you're doing because you're going to be very successful.
Greg
There is something about having too many things on the "front burner" that can make us very forgetful!
Thanks for your vote of confidence! :)
Best wishes,
Karin 😁
My favorite of all your posts so far! Good old Doors, of all kinds... let's see, where DID I put my glasses this morning?
Have you ever put them up on your head and really couldn't find them? Happens to me!
Best wishes,
Karin :)
LOL! You made me literally laugh out loud. My granddaughter thought I was going bonkers!
Best wishes,
Karin 😁
LMAO Karin,,,, I loved it. I used to really like Jim Morrison and the Doors too.
After I celebrated the 5th anniversary of my 39th birthday, that kind of "forgetfulness" began to hit me. Small things at first. Often times I would stand there befuddled and then turn around and go back into the room I had the thought in and after a minute or two would remember.
Now that it is almost the 29th anniversary, I learned how to "Take it Easy".
Sonny
Sonny, we have to "take it easy." Glad you loved the post!
I have walked to another room and went back again and never remembered what I wanted. Thankfully, so far it has never been anything I couldn't live without! LOL
Best wishes,
Karin 😁
I like that. And yes I often walk from one room to another trying to remember why I was there too. And I thought it was the age!!! I've learnt something from you today
Thx Karin.
