Does anyone know of any free resources out there that will let you check if an article has been copied or spun?

I know copy scape is a popular resource but it is not free.

Here is the one I read about and tried - was suggested by a WA member!

http://smallseotools.com/plagiarism-checker/

Thanks I will check it out!

Thanks Tria that tool is perfect!

A good question cheers

Thanks!

The simplest way is to take a few sentences from the middle of the article and search for it in quotes in Google, ie. > "Does anyone know of any free resources out there that will let you check if an article has been copied or spun? I know copy scape is a popular resource but it is not free. Anyone have any ideas?" < :) Rich.

thanks for that suggestion @Rich. Another method I've tried is to submit articles to StreetArticles and see if they accept it.

I came across a resource somewhere but I just can't seem to remember the URL. Hard to believe that a tool like this is not readily available.

LOL, I'd be careful, if the moderators at SA think that's what you're doing you'll be banned for spamming them! It's worth bearing in mind that SA is owned by K&C. ;) I use http://www.copyscape.com to check when I outsource content, it's only 5¢ a page. Rich.

@Rich, I usually delete the article right after it gets accepted and goes to the review stage.

So basically I am just seeing if the article will get "accepted" by SA. If the match percentage is too high this is flagged right away by the SA algorithm, which is what i want to see.

I don't let the articles go through to the "published" stage. But the tight standards at SA are a good way to see how an article will hold up.

If you can make it on SA you can make it anywhere! :)

If I can't find the resource I'm looking for I may give copyscape a try.

Not sure if this has been specifically asked before.

But is it possible to recover the rankings of a site that has been google slapped?

I know one of the things that

So sorry this happened to you. I see good answers to your question below. Let us know how it work out for you!

I have not had that problem but would suggest using your thesarus to help eliminate the appearance of stuffing your site... It is suggested that on the main page you perhaps use keywords in your title or subtitle, and once the the first paragraph. Just write naturally... no stuffing...

Technically, you should be able to get rid of those bad links. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2648487 I'm currently trying to do this with a few pages, I did it once with a few select links, and no results. I'm trying again with a broader disavow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Here's some more resources http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2273639/How-to-Use-Googles-Disavow-Links-Tool-the-Right-Way

http://searchengineland.com/googles-matt-cutts-on-common-disavow-link-tool-mistakes-162804

I heard about that disavow tool. i actually heard some bad things about this. it potentially sends BAD link juice to the sites that are linking to you.

So you might be over optimizing from a legit site but by using the disavow tool you potentially hurt that site as well as any other site getting links from that site.

Supposedly google was using that as a way to catch the private blog networks.

But do let me know how it goes for u if you do it.

What exactly is the Rapid writer and how does it work?

I tried searching the site for any info on how this works. I found a few hits but nothing to really answer my questi

Just found out that you can go to rapid Writer.net to find out more.

Good question this is the first time I have herd of Rapid Writer.

I have just watched YouTube video .

I is right here at Wealthy Affiliate. not sure where but looking into it.

Yes, this is my question too. I can't figure out how to use it.

Kamali the only articles I have showing in Rapid Writer are ones that I personally have written. I don't know why you have some showing up, I definitely wouldn't publish them as is! You can use them as GUIDES ONLY, best to ask Kyle why they are showing up for you.

Maybe I got lucky! They're probably not there anymore after writing this discussion! :(

Well it doesn't matter, you're best off writing your own or having them ghost written for you, which is what I'm doing... I guess I'm writing about half my own stuff and get half written by an ex WA'er.
Either way just keep plugging away at it and you'll soon start to see the results you want.

Have you tried using ODesk or Elance for your ghost writing?

Yes I mostly use elance, found a great writer who used to be a member here! Only problem is he's on holiday until next month!

I have been taking pride in writing my own content, but I think I may look into this.

Seems most of the more successful internet marketers are doing this as a part of time management.

Also, I "think" ELance and Odesk have affiliate programs. So there might be an opportunity there as well

absolutely mate, also if you have the time you could earn yourself some extra moolah by writing some stuff for other people!
Let me know how you get on!

Greg

Original content is what Google is looking for above almost everything else. Take articles and use them as guides, but do not use content by other people unless you hired them to write for you (like at Fiverr.com)

Agreed, that's why I wanted to know if the articles I had in rapid writer were originals just for me. Wishful thinking huh? :)

Rapid Writer is a bit of a "legacy" from the days when such techniques as keyword "density" were important. I've been here over a year and have never made use of it. That said, some Members find it useful for pre-formatting, as copying-and-pasting from apps such as Microsoft Word carries a lot of invisible codes with it and creates issues in formatting and publishing at SA, etc. so they use RapidWriter as an intermediary step. Rich.

I get that, but that does not explain how I have fully written articles already in my queue and whether or not I need to rewrite these before posting to any sites.

Do you have any info on that?

Interesting that you have articles there already. I take it these are not ones you have written. I would ask Kyle on this one for sure.

No I did not write them. I thought this was normal.
