Ok, so I think I chose too broad a Niche, Now What?

I have been reading more here on WA and now think that my Niche, Special Education Materials, is way too broad. Can I get it more specific with keywords? I already have my .com, so changing that is not an option, I don't think?? I think I am getting too ahead of myself, back to training I go.

Hello Julia. I just visited your website and think that you are totally off to a great start! The links for the Edmark Reading and the article on "explicit learning" are wonderful.

I really feel that your URL is still going to serve what you need and want to be doing with your website as stated in your About Me page. You can have several tracks/pages of information that can keep your flow of information engaging and I would think keep people on your site as they will all have differing needs and your growing info will help those who visit.

Just my two cents "-) Hope you and your family are doing well as you keep plugging away at this. I look forward to seeing more.

So ... keep up the good work!

it depends on whether you are focusing on the conditions, or the experiences of parents. If you can track keywords related to the experience of dealing with the hazards and different obstacles (or joys) you could be on to something distinctive. It sure would sit well with social media too.

I don't think you can overemphasize the importance of the parent(s) participation in the education of a special needs child. Unfortunately, in a large percentage, learning disabilities end with behavior disorder. The two feed upon each other so seamlessly that a child labeled as "BD" frequently has an unrecognized "LD" problem. You could pretty much devote your entire website to helping parents get involved with the teacher of their child with learning disabilities.

I don't think they are too specific. If you consider the depth, width and breadth of each of these : autism, Downs Syndrome, etc. you could keep busy populating a different site for each of these. I think you are on the right track, just focus on one of these "sub-niches at a time. If you try to develop a single site encompassing all of the possibilities, you will be overwhelmed.

Please check it out so far specialeducationmaterials.com and let me know. So far I am starting with the before school starts and right after. Not gotten into any specifics yet. Thanks for all your input!

I am aware of several subcategories under special ed. Any of them would still work with your domain name. Special ed. & ADHD. Special ed. and BD. Even if you limit your site to one of these smaller sub-niches, your domain name will apply and be descriptive of your site.

Thank you, I have much experience with children with Learning Disabilities, Developmental Disabilities, such as Down Syndrome, as well as Autism and many of it's sub-categories and kids with Behavioral Disorders. Are these too specific?

I do not consider myself an expert in any, but would rather focus on the ones I have the most experience in.

Your URL does not need to incorporate keywords. It's your "Brand" as Kyle told me. Keywords only important in your post titles and in the first 160 characters (not words) in the opening statement of your post....So don't worry about your URL.
