The Joys of being Self-Employed

When you were working in the 'real' world, the chances are that you used to look forward to the weekend and having a little down-time without giving a thought to what work might bring on Monday. But now you work from home, have you found that the weekend doesn't seem to have the same kind of 'feel-good' factor that it used to?

But although you may not have the weekend off in the 'traditional' sense, just think about everything you stand to gain by not doing the daily 9-5 commute!

Yes, you may say...

But you should be able to re-schedule your time now so that you have free time when others are stuck in the office. Think about having the freedom to collect the kids from school and play ball in the park for a while; or what about cooking an unexpected romantic dinner for your partner when you have some free time to do grocery shopping when it's quiet in the supermarket?

And for every weekend that you don't get the time to spend with friends or family, remember to tell yourself this...

because....

And if you're still scared of taking the plunge...

No-one said it was going to be easy, but it's so worth it!

Have a wonderful weekend my fellow entrepreneurs, no matter how you spend it!

Ciao for now, Jude.

Hi, Jude. I do agree with you. I already worked so much overtime for someone else and instead of compensation, I got mobbed. So yes, is good to work as hard but for yourself. A+

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it :)

I love the last pin on the 5 W It make me think of the Japanese concept of asking WHY five times when trying to get to the root of the problem. Don't simply accept and stop at the first two why. Dwell deeper and probe more and look under the carpet. [Liat]

Great idea, thank you for stopping by :)

Always find your blog interesting read. Keep it up. [Liat]

The title of your blog would be best placed visibly near our computers, that we might be reminded of the rewards. Have a great weekend Jude

Thank you Dick, and you also :)

Hi Jude, it's such a joy! I've actually been self-employed as from yesterday...or should I call it unemployed lol... But I'm looking forward to rescheduling my time. Thanks for the great post. I will remember to tell myself - I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday!
Ray

Hey Ray, keep thinking self-employed, rather than unemployed, if you can. It's a far better mindset and as a believer in the Law of Attraction, get rid of the negativity. (I don't mean this in a horrible or patronizing way either!) Something WILL turn up and in the meanwhile you can build your website :)

Thanks Jude! I believe in the law of attraction too. Thanks for the encouragement, it means a lot to me!

Thanks for the post. I find the thing which helps me is to create boundaries. "There is a time to work, a time to be with family, a time to play....".

If you are not careful, business can consume you as the list is never ending of things "to do". I found I learned to choose my priorities and stay focused when building my businesses. When I am done for the day, I try to be done!! (not responding to every email right away) This helps to keep my joy.

If you have to work the weekends, then be sure to schedule other times apart from work and for the things that really matter. Maybe your weekend is not Saturday and Sunday but perhaps 2 other days.

that's exactly what I mean - you have to find your 'weekend' which works for you and your family. Thanks so much for stopping by :)

I work everyday, only when everyone else is at work, school or they go to bed. This gives me plenty of time to work every day and still spend all of my free time with family and friends. I must push myself to complete daily task before they get home or I have to stay up late finishing my list. Must make list everyday!!!!
John

Hi John, making lists is a great way of maintaining focus and you have a great sense of achievement when you tick off that last task :)

Hi Jude
I love your Posts. Have a nice WEEK-END!

Thank you very much, and you also :)

Love this post, Jude! Thank you for sharing, and you have a lovely weekend!

thanks so much, you too :)

Today I just am able Congratulate only! What you can you do on dayly basis.

Thanks so much. As always, you are very kind :)

Awesome post as always Jude! I'm happy to say I'm not at the stage where working on the weekend bothers me (it's lovely to be creating again). I do find it a little trickier to find time when the whole family needs my attention. A woman's work, or should I say, a mother's work, is never done. He he. We even work on public holidays like Christmas (usually harder than ever).

He he, I know! I'm still negotiating with myself when I will have a day off lol! Have a calm and peaceful weekend Lauren :)
