Remind yourself why you started
Last Update: Mar 23, 2016
There can be many reasons why it's easy to get off track, moving away from your goals instead of towards them, including self-doubt and fear that you won’t succeed. You may also think that your goals are unrealistic or too 'out there' to ever be able to reach them.
When this happens, you need to remind yourself why you started this adventure in the first place.
If you've been trying to obtain your goal for some time, now is as good a time as any to take time to look at everything you've accomplished so far. All goals take many steps to get to and the road might not always be a smooth one. Just remind yourself of how far along the road you've already traveled.
When you first started, the chances are that you gave yourself a huge pat on the back for every little step forward you achieved - you felt a sense of accomplishment and an 'I've done it' attitude would have swept over you. But as you move forward, you can start to berate yourself for not moving faster and things might not feel as exciting as they were in the beginning.
This is when you start to wonder whether it's all worth it and is the same kind of feeling which people experience year in, year out, when they decide to start a diet or exercise regime in January, (New Year Resolution, anyone?)
Relax - you are simply feeling what a lot of people feel in March. It's understandable and you are not alone. This is the time when you will start to question your reasons and ask yourself whether it will all be worth it in the end.
Re-write a list of your goals and start ticking off every little step you move that bit closer to them. Re-assess your monthly and long-term goals and set yourself a reasonable time-frame in which to achieve them. Schedule times when you will move away from the laptop and promise yourself that you will not be too hard - give yourself a break for goodness sake! We all need to smell the roses now and again.
Go to bed, have a good night's sleep and start with fresh vigor and zest tomorrow morning. It WILL be worth it :)
Ciao for now my fellow entrepreneurs, Jude.
So true! All the excitement of the new year starts fading by now, it's important to remember your "why". Thanks for the reminder!
It definitely is important Rachel, we all seem to get fed up by now. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, it's appreciated :)
Jude, well said, but truthfully it's not just March, what you said about give yourself a break is so true. I find that I get so determined that I don't get up for hours and as I get tired, I get frustrated, and then the self doubt and questioning kicks in. Moving to something unrelated, stepping away, or just smelling the roses, breeds new life and spirit and I have to remind myself that what I'm working on will still be there waiting for me. It doesn't have to be finished at that specific moment, and it probably will finish up easier, when I return with clearer eyes and a brighter spirit. Well done.
it is always something that we all go through but we must believe in ourselves and be strong and it will all work!!!
You know Jude,
Sometimes I think you all are physic and that scares me.
Today I am feeling a bit low since I have been trying so many things that are not producing what I need.
I will do as you say and see how that goes.
(I am learning how to develop as a medium as a matter of fact!) I hope your spirits pick up quickly Sheila and you can always feel free to inbox me if you ever want to chat :)

This is a great sentiment - I will come back to this as needed!
Hey Cath, thanks so much for taking time to comment :)
