Things That Look Pretty Don't Necessarily Sell!
Over the years I have built around 10 websites and seen some success, however that was back in 2004. I had a hotel booking website for Thailand, a forum for TEFL teachers, a themed candle store and a silver jewellery store.
I had to learn from research and with help from my brother who is a programmer.
Then I got Sick!
However, this isn't about failure I have seen some success, therefore know I can do it again once more. It just wasn't in the MMO industry. For all of you that are working hard on content and SEO, I salute you.
Making websites for me is the easy part, however keyword and content implementation continues to make me learn more. It doesn't always matter about making your website look amazing you can work on that as you build your business over a long-time.
Although looks may be important for some you will have ample amounts of time to make your website look nice as you build the all-important content.
I find designing website is a pleasure, I am attracted to colourful things that look amazing. If your good at website creation build your website as shown in the training here at WA and slowly implement the content as you master SEO along the way.
I like things that look in order hence my websites at most look tidy and well-organised. That's not the end-all however is it?
I know that if your a newbie here things can seem tough, however I've been here almost three years. I can tell you even though I know how to make things look nice website wise I still have to work hard on content and SEO.
Don't let my three years as a member put you off as I had a lot going on over at least two of those years that really held me back. It doesn't have to be this way for you and I hope the training here at WA brings you success all the time.
Remember anything that looks amazing may not create traffic, algorithms pay less attention to looks more content. As long as all your links are in place, both internal and external with well-chosen backlinks that's fine.
If your worried about backlinks give your website time to mature first.
Not all web designers have the ability to make a website work with traffic. Same as SEO experts they may be able to write great content that brings traffic but spend less time on design.

I have always said, some of my ugliest looking websites ever, were the highest converting. Relevance and value convert, not "pretty".
Great post here Stephen!
Absolutely Stephen!
We can have the best looking website out there, but... if our content sucks, no one will ever get to see it anyway!!
Writing quality content that will help our audiences should ALWAYS be our number one priority my friend... aesthetics and such can be added at a later date if we choose to do so!!
Have a fantastic Sunday buddy!!

Stephen great post and you are right. It can be tough writing content and finding the right keywords.
But with practice you can get good writing content and finding the right keywords.
Remember Roman wasn't built in a day.

Hi There,
Thanks, I agree with practice makes perfect but are there any non-competitive keywords left that rank well?
15 years ago I designed a few websites not keyword driven just normal websites that did well.
I think Google's winner is it knows so much about us now. I mean who are Google's competitors?
When you have fewer websites to compete with you have more time driving traffic your way from those that believe in your content!

Stephen, nice to meet you. The reason why we used keywords is so we can be ranked out of thousand websites.
It brings traffic to our sites, it gets us notice. As far as Google's competion is yahoo and bing.
And we used the keywords to develop our content around so it is more engaging to the audience.
That is why we used keywords it helps us as well as helping others to find our websites.
I hope that this helps you out.
