1. A Niche is not a Market.

Couple of days ago, I logged on to wealthy affiliates and the question I bumped into was, is Microwave a good niche? I was interested in the question and so decided to answer with about 200 words. "Microwaves" I apologize for using the microwave as an example but I wanted newbies and any one struggling to find a niche to learn from this. You will agree with me that Microwave is a very broad term. There must be loads of people typing it in the microwave search term. But are they actually searching for Microwave or there are a lot more depth to their search. I am fascinated by the Microwave niche because of what I learned answering the question. The Microwave niche is a tricky because without digging deep, you will either end up meeting the needs of your audience or totally pushing them away.

2. Why a Broad Niche is not the answer.

There are people who want to invest in microwave and want to read about reviews surrounding shinny models displayed in the electronic shops. Others want to know what kind of food the microwave can quickly heat. What plates can be placed in the microwave and whether the plates will spin in the microwave and so heat the food all round. However, there may be others who may be searching about the microwave for health reasons. Actively searching about the relationship between microwave and cancer. As you will notice the list goes on on about the reasons why people may be searching around a particular word. When the word is broad you alienate your audience and lose authority.

My research in keywords, has exposed me to keywords in niches that may be beginning to gain momentum with loads of traffic but very low QSR and vice versa. That means some keywords or niches start off with low QSR but as time goes on bloggers and authority companies write blogs and make the keywords more competitive, hence pushing up the QSR. As time goes on people also become savvy in their searches and narrow their searches down in order to find what exactly they are looking for.

Picking up on the microwave scenario, I am sure when the microwave was first introduced a lot of searches were broad and targeted only to microwave as keyword. Writers would not initially cover all the areas of a broad keyword like microwave, but as the competition becomes intense, writers begin to write to meet their customer needs. Let take for eaxWhat if 80% of the audience are searching for the effect of microwave on our health but you end up sending blogs about selling microwave. Imagine what the opening rate of your blogs will be. That is why it is very important that you take some time to research on your niche and keyword.

3. The Market & Niche Divide

Lets take the brides to be market. The niche here is not brides to be because it is too broad. Niches within the bridal market are as follows:

1. Wedding dresses

2. Reception Venues

3. Wedding Flowers

4. Wedding rings

5. Wedding Photography

6. Bombonieries

7. Catering

Any of these could be someone's niche. You can start researching on keywords surrounding your chosen niche. I see niches as specializing in an area in which you know so much about that, if there is the need for anyone to talk about the subject the obvious person will be you. You own the space for that niche and understand its relationship with the world. It may sound scary to think that you are supposed to know and understand everything in your niche but, with time you can become the professor of your niche.

4. Getting the distinction right?

The distinction help not only to work towards your niche but also target keywords that are related to your niche. If you choose the wedding photography niche you want to be targeting audiences looking for products and services related to wedding photography. You can write articles on say "wedding photography ideas" (Keyword) and not how to cater for wedding guest if your niche is wedding photography. This is important because when your audience visit your site about wedding photography you want them to spend time exploring about wedding photos and nothing else. For the sustainablity of your business, you want your audience to also refer others to your website as the go to place about wedding photography. Staying longer on your website is also the key to impulse buy.

5. Understanding Keyword

Keyword is a key to unlocking different doors to a niche. The Wedding photography niche can be unlocked with different keywords such as:

  1. Wedding photo frames
  2. Cool wedding photos
  3. Wedding photo ideas

As we know each keyword has value. Wedding photo ideas may have more searches and hence more value. Under the niche you could write about all sorts of blogs surrounding the niche, depending on your the keyword traffic and QSR competition.

To conclude, I leave you with a research conducted on three separate internet marketers. They all invested the at the same time into internet marketing.

First internet marketer made $1000s a month.

Second internet marketer broke even.

Third Marketer lost money each month.

The one who made the most money did that because of the niche they chose.

In summary, success is not achieved by the person working the hardest but the person researching into their niche and delivering what the audience want and need. The most important time spent in your online journey is choosing the right niche and keyword. I wish you all the very best in this journey.
