Moving in a new direction
Which Direction?
I've decided to head in a new direction with my 'Grandpas green thumb' website.
I've been disappointed with it for some time now. I stopped writing blogs for it months ago when I developed health issues.
But the great thing about getting sick and being bedridden is that you have a lot of time to think and to plan.
And I have big plans for this site.
Firstly I'm sacking Amazon.
Then I'm removing and revamping the review posts.
Why?
Because, I have decided to try an experiment.
I have been building an ecommerce website that focuses on Gardening products.
This website will be developed to target an Australian audience. Whereas,the grandpa's Green Thumb site was targeted worldwide.
lt just didn't work for me.
As for Amazon, I've heard for years from fellow members on just how great they are .
But are they really ?
Most of my paid commission's only total from 50 cents to a couple of dollars, thanks to their lousy commissions.
I know that some people say to target only big commission items but in order to achieve that I would have to be selling ride on mowers.
I think the mail man might have a few issues delivering them.
What will I do instead ?
I will be targeting smaller items using droppshipping.
Having done the research and talking to other successful dropshippers, I found out that I could increase my profit level from a few lousy percent to 50 % or greater (and still be competitive).
This way, as an example, I could sell a product for $20 and make $10 profit. The same item would give me about 60 cents commission with Amazon.
I know that there are those that wouldn't agree with me, but, in the end I need to do things the way I'll be comfortable with.
As for Grandpa's green thumb.
I will recommence writing blogs for it but the reviews will be on the products available on my e-commerce site.
In other words, my WA website will point to my ecommerce site.
This way I can encourage free traffic as well as paid traffic. Both sites will also be linked to Facebook and Pinterest.
There's exciting times ahead for me, my WA friends.
I do have several other projects I'm working on, but I'll reveal more on them in a future blog.
In the meantime, what are you working on?

First of all, I hope that the health issue is improving.
Thank you for this blog post, it gives me a new perspective to target local (domestic) instead of worldwide.
I will implemented to my travel site, so it will be ready when people start to travel again.

I am also a bit shy of amazon, but the items that I talk about don't have too many options. I will definitely keep my eyes open and see how things come along. Still got a bit of a long road ahead of me.

Hey Jim, this sounds like a winning adventure. And as you called it an experiment... if you make a decent profit from it, then it would be a successful experiment.
I look forward to seeing you blog about it. As I have given a similar idea some time in my mind with my website development site. I haven't quite worked out the details on it yet. So, I am interested in how it works out for you.
It's something I will keep in mind while I continue with my WA website.

Great news on your 'new' old project, or is it 'old' new project ? Either or, it's good that you have rekindled that desire. You will have much more control of the earnings side of things as well.
My final destination is the same but I have altered course a couple of times recently, still enjoying the voyage though.

I hear you about Amazon. My websites is mostly for fitness books. I also recommend fitness equipment on Amazon, but I do have an end goal. I have a product for the fitness industry that I am prototyping, plan on doing a kickstarter, and advertise on my site. If I go through Amazon I will make peanuts. I have months to think about this so plans may change, but that is where I am at the moment.
Best of luck with your changes. I could tell a few months back that you were unhappy with your current site and how things have been going.
