Don't rush - use spell and grammar check on your computer

I don't tend to be snobbish, but I do think grammar and spelling is important. Especially for your readers. I have been spending time viewing blogs and websites and I am surprised at the spelling and grammatical errors. If a person becomes a blogger or creates content for a website, then they are working in the literary world. Along with this journey into the literary world means there are certain rules to follow which makes it easier for the reader.

This is a pretty simple fix. Look up on Google for a spell check or use the spell check and grammar check on your computer. Easy enough. This is well worth the while, as many people may be turned off by frequent mistakes (resulting in leaving your website). Here are suggestions on how to do this:

1). Free online grammar check, spelling check, plagiarism detection and writing suggestions

If the creative juices are flowing, go with it and keep typing This isn't the time to check spelling and grammar. But, in the proofreading you may want to take the time for spell check and grammar correction.

2. First use a MicroSoft Word document. Start out with typing your thoughts for your website content or blog onto a Word document. This has an automatic spell check (usually a red line under the word). A grammar check and thesaurus is also available on the toolbar. When finished, you can transfer (cut and paste) your content to your website. Paying attention to the red lines as you type will save you lots of time later on.

3. Proofread. Take the extra time to read and re-read what you have written. Sometimes it helps to take a break and walk away for awhile to get another perspective. It's easy to overlook grammar and spelling; especially because you, the author, know what you want to say. Re-read your content and see if that is the best way to convey your message from the reader's perspective.

3. Get feedback

The WA community is an excellent place to 'test the waters' and see if content needs course correcting. I think the community needs to give honest feedback if content is not up to speed and suggest using a grammar/spell check. Too often I see the reader just giving glowing reviews. Maybe a PM (private message) is the place to tell the writer that they need to use the spell check.

In closing, I want to admit that I struggle with this as much as anyone else. While writing this article, I misspelled 'grammer' every time I typed it. Luckily that little red line tells me that I typed it wrong and I can quickly make the correction. Thanks to K & C for including the spell check in their blogging software!

I look forward to reading anyone's thoughts or suggestions about this topic.

Happy Writing!!!!!
