If you are new to the world of affiliate marketing, you are probably asking how does amazon’s affiliate program work? I hope to simplify this for anyone who is new to the Amazon affiliate program or affiliate marketing in general.

What is Amazon Associates?

Amazon Associates is simply the free to join affiliate program or referral program of Amazon. Yes, that Amazon that was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 (That guy who lost half his net worth to his wife in his divorce settlement). The one whose stock (AMZN) is currently trading for $1943.05 per share in the stock market as of July 26th 2019. Obviously valued very highly by investors. The same one you shop online for just about anything especially. THAT AMAZON.

Simply put, Amazon associates is a referral program that pays everyday people like you and I money for giving them “new” customers. Everyday people like you and me share in Amazons profits through a business model called affiliate marketing (see stories above). A lot of these people where beginners who had no idea what affiliate marketing was and started doing so thanks to the training provided at Wealthy Affiliate.

So how does the amazon affiliate program work?

The Amazon affiliate program is just like any other affiliate program. Typically, the most common type of people making money from these programs are bloggers and aspiring affiliate marketers. They typically create websites and blogs and drive traffic to them by delivering content to other people just like you and me.

From there, Amazon provides special links to the affiliates known as affiliate links. These are links that are unique to the affiliate. Once the visitors or the affiliates website, blog, or Youtube videos click on the affiliates links, Amazon then tracks the visitor for a certain amount of time (24 hours) to see if they purchase anything from their store. In the event that a sale is made by Amazon in that alloted period of time, the affiliate gets paid a referral commission from Amazon. This usually varies between 4% and 10% depending on the product that was bought.

Once the affiliate is paid, the process repeats itself over and over again. The affiliate or blogger creates content, places affiliate links within their relevant content, links get clicked, visitor purchases something from Amazon, then the affiliate gets paid.

This can be a great way to get extra pocket cash or even develop another source of income outside of a job. Best of all, you don't have to spend 40 hours a week to make a decent living. However, don't mistake this for being quick or easy money. ITS NOT! But it is worthwhile if you have the patience.
