Location Independence
This should be the first reason why you start a business online. If you want to travel endlessly or move from place to place for an indefinite period of time while still earning money, you need to have location independence. The beauty of the internet is that it is not tied down to any one location. In fact, the internet is located everywhere around the world. So if you have internet access, you have the potential to be able to disconnect your ability to earn income from your location.
Most jobs or small businesses do not give the luxury of location independence. If you have a local service based business, you can only serve people in your community or location. Your job is also tied to a specific location. If you lived in San Francisco, you would have to have a job in that area. You can’t live in San Francisco and have a job from Las Vegas unless it’s some kind of remote position. Even those aren’t as common yet.

No one expects a business to start being profitable right out of the gate. If you do, your in the wrong place and should just stick to a regular job. In fact, a lot of online business owners still have a job while building their business out. I have heard various stories about people only quitting their jobs after a few years. Usually by that point, most people stay on the job and practice living of their business income before quitting their day time job and pursuing their businesses full time. The last thing you want to do is have an income stream dry up and you have to beg for your job back.
So if you are worried about not being committed full time, know that you can work on your business after your typical work shift is done. But you can’t make excuses about being tired after work. Better to do the work now than toil in misery for another few years or decades.
Legacy
Unfortunately, we all arent going to live forever. This means you need to create something that lasts beyond your lifetime. In terms of passing something on to your children, an online business and the income derived from it can easily be passed on to them. This allows them to continue their living without any interuptions.
Most people who lose their loved ones also lose their love ones income in the event of their deaths. This is because a job only pays that person while they are alive and working. A company is not going to pay you just because your spouse died. For most people, the income from their jobs doesn't pass on to the survivors. The income dies with the employee.

All the time, it is more about earning extra income and having the freedom to work from home...which I found out was not what it was made out to be. It is more than that. I have to learn to discipline myself, to be persistent, to be humble...and more.
