Is akismet necessary for your website on wordpress? I have something called spamshield that keeps saying its blocking spam so do I need additional protection?
It was once free and the best thing out there for stopping spam. But, now we all use SpamShield as June indicated. The training simply hasn't been updated apparently.
Agree. I wonder if the free version still works like a charm. I mean for those who manage to get the free one before.
The last time I check (long time) there wasn't a free version.... or at least, not one I could find :-)

Not now because this company (Akismet) wants money for their service. Antispam Bee works pretty well and it is free.
I actually tried that one first, but then switched to WP SpamSheild because a few comments got through. But, that's just me. Perhaps I didn't test long enough.
