The Most Common Mistakes Beginners Make

Hello WA Family

We are going to learn what are the most common mistakes beginners make in content marketing. By making mistakes we are learning from them, so trying new strategies is not something to be afraid to try.

Starting Without a Plan

The first mistake many people make is not coming up with a good plan. You can't succeed in content marketing without taking the time to research and come up with a good starting plan.

Thanks to Wealthy Affiliate this is already done for you. If you follow the training the plan is already set up for you.

Market Research

The majority of people lack researching to choose the right sub-niche and target audience. Remember from my last post, choose a small segment instead of a large industry is important. Also focus on helping a specific group of consumers that are interested in your products and services is a proven strategy.

Do Your Niche Homework

Sub-niches are your bread and butter, but the majority of people don't spend nearly enough time researching to find a unique niche that has less competition.

Beware of short-term trends. I always research to be sure I am able to find enough keywords with low competition and a good source of traffic using Jaaxy.

The Website

First impressions are just as important online as in person. Avoid adding too many bells and whistles that might slow your website down. These also can overwhelm your visitors causing them to abandon your website.

Make it a point to design your website easy to navigate. People don't want to spend too much time trying to figure out how to find everything they are interested in.

Black print with a white background is the number one choice by many visitors. Colored backgrounds can make reading your content more difficult for some people.

If you have your heart set on a colored background, take your time choosing and experimenting to find a combination that is easy to read and easy on the eyes.

Website Optimization

Optimizing your website for search engines is another task many new bloggers forget about.

The best content in the world will do you very little good if the search engines can't find it.

Fortunate for WA members Kyle does the work for you. Take your time learning from the training and work at your own pace.

Content

At times people new to writing content are tempted to take shortcuts. You will be punished by the search engines with duplicate content. Forget about copying and pasting as well.

When doing your research jot down the points you want to make, then write the content in your own words.

Coping another website's content also can get you into legal trouble, so be sure never to give in to temptation to use their content as your own.

Solve Problems

By solving problems common in your sub-niche that is relevant to your target audience you will build trust with your readers. Share your experience naturally creates relationships between you and your readers.

Researching your niche and audience to learn what problems people are searching for is an important strategy. The majority of new websites often lack putting enough time into researching, they instead focus on publishing posts more frequently that are less valuable.

Promoting Your Posts

The lack of marketing your posts on social media and other sources is too common. You can't depend totally on the search engines for traffic especially with a new website.

  • X (Formerly Twitter)
  • Linkedin
  • Pinterest
  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • Tik Tok
  • Forums
  • And so on

Feel free to share any other sources that are good places to promote blog posts in the comments section. Sharing is a great strategy to help other members, so don't be shy about contributing to this post.

Patience

Even with Wealthy Affiliate it takes patience to experience success online. The average website owner often gives up within the first year.

Your first year is often a roller coaster ride. Many of you will experience sales now and then during this time. The longer you are online publishing high-quality content the more frequently your sales will become.

Remember, you have to establish both relationships and trust with your visitors. As both of these grow, so will your sales.

Reach Out to Other Members

Many people start an online business on their own. Most of these usually give up within the first year.

You can't do this alone, I know because I tried this for many years. With WA you have to reach out to other members to help you along the way.

  • Learn from the training and the classes
  • Read other members posts
  • Provide and request feedback
  • Ask for assistance using the live chat
  • Private message other members for mentoring

We have an amazing community that is more than happy to help you if you ask them. Never be shy about reaching out to other members if you hit any roadblocks.

Success Tips

  • Focus on a purpose of what you want to provide to your visitors in your content.
  • What problems do you want to solve for your target audience
  • Understand your target audience's interests.
  • Easy to navigate website
  • Easy to read design
  • Check your content on a variety of devices. The most common devices are smartphones, desktops, and tablets.
  • Make it a point to write well-written content that provides solutions to your target audiences problems.
  • Check your content to be easy to read and understand.
  • Spend the extra time to research to find the best keywords
  • Add a newsletter signup form to keep your readers updated

Some excellent recommendations. Research is the key. I spend a lot of time researching. Maybe too much time :-) However, I have found I do better when I research thoroughly. I look for multiple keywords and phrases for each article I post.

Thanks for a reminder of the things that are important.

Hello Bead Catz

I don't think we can ever research too much. Just be sure that you don't spend too much time researching that it is keeping you from making progress

Jeff

True, that is why it can be a delicate balance at times. I have learned when to cut it off, depending on what I am researching. Although I occasionally wonder if I did too much, but so far it works well for me.

Hello,

Research can be addicting. I used to have that problem myself when I started in this business.

I have a cut off time each day that I stop whatever I am doing to end my day.

Jeff

That was great, Jeff! Straight to the point without a lot of extra words that add no value.
Great tips for all of us that are new to this world.
