Just a quick blurb...I heard on the news that ICANN, the group that maintains the Internet Top Level Domains, has opened up the application process to add new TLDs. Looking at their site and the list of applications so far...

wow, there are some doozies on there! :)

Two apps for .LOL

Nine for .BLOG

Five for .BUY

Five for .FREE

Even one for .WTF

Ahhh, I'm sure 99% of them will be rejected but fun to see what people want to register!

I heard that the top ranked .new is .web. I was only half listening so I didn't get the whole scoop but it might be a good one to ruminate on.

wow now thats funny...wtf oh my!
scary what people will attempt online...

Yeah, the applications for these started last year. The process involves several $100K and a 500 page application. I agree it will be interesting to see what people do with these, but I have always thought this was a big cash grab for ICANN and won't result in much.

ICANN has had no luck releasing some of the more popular TLD's...did you know that .travel rolled out several years back and nobody adopted this (no travel site). There is a reason for it, .com's and .org's get ranked, they get typed in, they are memorable, and they carry the most value.

Ahh, didn't realize it started that long ago. It was weird hearing it on the news so I looked it up. :) But yeah, I don't see .com/.org getting displaced as king of the hill anytime soon either.

The .app battle will be an interesting one. There are definitely some ones that I can see carrying potential for creating an entire business, a couple being the .review and .reviews domains. There could be some strong upside potential with those.

Will be interesting to see when these are handed out and what people do with them.

.lol this will be interesting to see the outcome of :)

I'd propose .lmao but I'd have to give them an email address.
