A Lack of Responsibility

There is a disconnection with people, goals, responsibility, and life today. I see a lack of discernment, vision, and no sense of urgency. People can't or don't want to create a solid plan. Last minute actions are an impediment. This disrupts everything normal.

I try not to get frustrated at people's laissez faire attitudes. My attitude is make a definitive decision and go for it. People that make decisions with no regard to other people's schedule does not sit well with me. I don't mind helping people who really need it. Helping those who expect you to drop what you are doing is not valid.

A relative of my wife is a poster child of my ire. He is thirty one years old and has no concept of responsibility. The lack of what should be important takes a back seat. Music is very important to him since it is his career. He is probably the best in the upstate possibly the whole state.

To me this is irrelevant when he should be responsible to pick up his daughter from school. He calls my wife at the last minute to have her go pick up his daughter. The reason for his lack of responsibility is he was getting his hair done. He constantly does crap like this all the time. I don't get how he makes it through life.

i understand my wife will jump when it comes to her granddaughter. I will do the same thing since she is my granddaughter too, but it shouldn't be our responsibility all the time. I wish my wife would tell him he needs to figure it out. We have our own schedules to keep.

i hate ranting, but there is validity to it. Irresponsibility can impede a lot of things. When you decide to waste your time on nonsubstantive material it is irresponsible. Take the time to educate yourself to better your life. Make moves that will explode your financial picture and your intellect.

Read a lot to expand your mind. The mind can hold a lot of info. I have read a lot in my time and love learning new things. I am reading Think and Grow Rich again. It is an excellent book on mastering your mindset to change your life.

There are a lot of resources out there to help our mindset. We have to take the initiative to change our mindset. Educate yourself and be responsible. Don't be like my wife's son. There is more to life than being irresponsible.

Don't be a detriment to your success. Don't be an impediment to other people's success either.

Keep the faith. Irresponsibility is failure and death.

His lack of planning does not become your emergency. He needs to learn that the center of the universe does not revolve around him. I had this problem with one of my sons. He called late one day and asked us to pick up our granddaughter. We did and then charged him for the fuel, time spent on the trip and babysitting services. He was angry but he learned his lesson. I love my granddaughter very much and allows enjoy my time with her but her father's attitude that we were at his beck and call changed.

I can relate to wanting to rant. However, you really should discuss the problem with the person that is causing it. Hopefully you have? One of our kids recently moved back home. I told her straight up, you need to get a job. Since you are such and such age, it is not really our responsibility to take care of your needs/wants. Dad and I will be leaving at a certain point and you need to have a license and a job to pay bills etc. In just a over a month she found a job. It's super important to set time limits with folks. I saw something on the talk once. One of the hosts said her dad helped her but he gave her a time limit. I will help you for 90 days, after that you are on your own. He stuck to it too! Good luck!

It is a struggle, but we are working on it.

A totally valid rant, Jeff. Over a period of time, I've removed any such people from my life. "It's difficult to fly when you're surrounded by turkeys".

2

Yep. Turkeys wind up on a dinner table
