A Wise Man Once Said
I got this quote from a movie and I'm not sure where it originates from. But it truly resonates with me.
The biggest cause of Death is retirement, because when we have something to do, or a place to be we just keep on going. When we have nothing left to do, we just give up.
Ok, this isn't meant to be morbid or grim, it's meant to make a point. What we have here at WA can provide for us well into our retirement (I'm not planning on retiring for at least another 80 years anyway.
When my mother was diagnosed with arthritis, she was forced to retire and this hit her very hard. For many years she gave up and did nothing with her life. Things got worse and she had a heart attack, but afterwards something woke up inside her, she realised life was short and for some reason she decided to take up art. She struggles a bit dropping her pencils and brushes etc, but she just pushes on.
She had never done anything like this before, so it came as quite a surprise to me but it turns out she's pretty good at it.
I've written about this on my site, but wanted to share it here at WA with you folks because we all get bad times in life, feel like quitting. I'm not sure to this day what woke my mother up but whatever it was came as a bit of a revelation to me
But I'm not waiting until that retirement comes or illness hits to do something about it. The moment is now, it's within my grasp, that goes for every single one of you reading this. The opportunity you have here is amazing, grasp it with all your might.

Lovely post, Jason. I've jst been diagnosed this past May with rhematoid arthritis, so I can somewhat understand what your mom faced. Good for her that she not only didn't give up, but let new creativity come through. I hope I can do as well. Sounds like you've learned a lot by watching her!
Heather :)
That's what she has rheumatoid Arthritis, she's had both here knees replaced. She is now waiting to see a specialist regarding her elbows which are in bad shape.
Sorry to hear you're going throuigh a similar thing, it's a terrible illness
Thanks. I'm trying to make something good come out of it by building my website around it. I hope I can encourage others who have RA, too.
I really like the dog. She did a great job. I have several friends who have retired and aren't happy because they do nothing but watch TV. I can't convince them to actively DO something that is NOT brain numbing. It's a decision that they have to make but I have to look up "bored" in the dictionary....... ~Debbi
I barely watch any tv any more, I die a little inside every time I see what is on. Unfortunately, my mother lives for it and watches it morning, noon and night. Such a shame when she has such talent.
Great post Jay. Hernanangel is correct the drawings are beautiful. Remember to hug your mom ever chance you get, give her a kiss and tell her how much you love her. I lost mine 15 years ago and wish I had must one more time to do that special moment with her. You are blessed. Thanks for bringing a happy tear to my eyes.
Hi Jay, Sometimes difficulty brings out greatness and your mother's pictures show a talent that was waiting to be discovered.
Since I retired in 2011 I have found many things to do that keep me going. With WA new discoveries every day.
Marty
Yes Marty you are a bit like me, always striving to learn more. I hate vegetating in front of the tv. Thanks for stopping by :)
This drawings are very beautiful. You are blessed that you still have your Mother around.. probably the biggest motivation. Keep up the fight my man.
