The 3 R's for better page rank

When we first begin our online business it's all about learning, trialling, editing, falling over (at least it was for me) and getting back up again.

First and foremost is "create content"

Content that is helpful, answers questions, provides information and creates your loyal following. Our time is devoted to the creation of original creative text and targeted to keywords meticulously researched.

And this all takes time! Right?

Then there is the eager anticipation of page 1 ranking and traffic flooding to our site and affiliate offers.

Exciting stuff

However as your website develops. And the content creation becomes ever so much easier, and your Seo knowledge grows along with your keyword research... Time to relax?

Not a chance

It's time to review, rework and revise

Now this may sound obvious and perhaps you're already doing it.. But take some time to read on

When I first started I was really really really proud of my original posts. They were original and targeted to my niche. I spent hours creating them, finding perfect images and graphics and setting them up in easy to read chunks.

They were awesome

Well awesome to a newbie who didn't really have a firm foundation

Many ranked.. Some even page 1...but many didn't... Its disheartening

So after 3 years of my website being live... And probably in a moment of remembrance... I went to my site and started reading my original posts

What did I find?

The majority were awful

I couldn't believe it.

Those posts I was so proud of were dreadful.... Badly structured... Badly composed and the seo was rubbish...

Not to beat myself up I realised that at the time with the information I had... They were good (hmm maybe... Possibly OK)

So I spent a few hours and reviewed them, reworked them and revised them.

I added the correct keyword and seo template...

I added correctly optimized images with alt text

I regrouped paragraphs and realigned graphics

I added new thoughts and I improved them

I properly formatted social sharing and grew traffic

And guess what?

It took way less time than creating new content

It improved my site

And they all ranked page 1 in less than 24 hours... Most had been way beyond page 10 beforehand

So... If you're struggling with new content ideas or your site has been live for a while... Or both

Do yourself a favor and go 3 R your old content

And please please let me know the results

To your ultimate success

Revising is going over your post adding additions, You know also writing new articles and watching them get ranked as long as you Dot the i and cross the T's and Keywords so much fun in inbound links, I like your blog, Thank you for letting me recap your subject Have a nice day,

Hey, great recap and thank you for your feedback. Really appreciate it. Wishing you much succesd
J

I do find old posts lacking in one way or another. I try to integrate editing with new writing on an ongoing basis. Cheers!
Also Jay has an excellent webinar about reviving posts' SEO.

Thank you for your feedback. I feel the same... The older posts just don't truly reflect what I had anticipated... So the time spent fixing is worth it. I'll look up Jay's training... Thanks for the tip.
J

Thanks for posting Jason! I'm fairly new here and when I learn something new which is almost everyday I go back and attempt to tweak my older post.

Thanks for letting me know this is a good idea :)

Steve

Good suggestion Jason, I was looking at a few of my beginning posts today also and some are just "bad" and very short too. I'm going to go back and rework some of the worse ones also. - Shirley

Phew... Glad it wasn't just me. :)
But very worthwhile doing and gives a nice break from creating from. Scratch. Much success to you.

Awesome! But, if I only knew what all this "correctness" is

I added the correct keyword and seo template...
I added correctly optimized images with alt text
I regrouped paragraphs and realigned graphics
I added new thoughts and I improved them
I properly formatted social sharing and grew traffic

Loved the blog. Thanks for the whack upside. As a newb, I'm doing the same thing. I know it's wrong, but I can't stop myself.

Lol... Well we are all in it together and learning all the time. No doubt I'll go back in 2 years and have to redo it all again. Keep learning and growing and the rest follows :)

Yes, Jason. I'm counting on it.

Great idea Jason going back with new wisdom can cause the odd cringe, it is amazing how we develop as we trundle along, I guess it goes hand in hand with our knowledge bringing new skills to old content can completely overhaul it.

Thanks for sharing how is everything ticking along.

Alex

Cheers Alex. Absolutely right.... If I hadn't picked up learning from WA and the wonderful community I'd probably still think they were awesome posts. And nice to know the old dog here can learn a few new tricks
J

Awesome I like that one, I always wondered when they talked about working smarter not harder, I guess it is all about learning those new tricks

Absolutely :)
