Social Media Challenge - Final Conclusion

Hey guys, this is my final conclusion regarding the Social Media Challenge - also called "october challenge". The previous posts were:

  • Announcement post here,
  • Half-way update post here.

As you remember, my first conclusion in this post was: THIS WORKS. It's a SLOW & STEADY progress but it works nevertheless. Particularly for Instagram, I suggest you follow Audrey's WA training here.

In the second half of the social media challenge, I will be honest with you, I was struggling to create new posts every day. In my eyes, that means I failed the challenge.

However...

I still ended up making a sale which comes directly from Twitter. (Does that mean the challenge was a success after all? Let me know your opinion in the comments below.)

Considering my account is new and VERY small, this convinced me even more that if done right social media is a powerful tool.

So here's my own personal conclusion:

  • Twitter worked better for me because I didn't have to create images every day. Sometimes I could just share a simple insight from my online business in a couple of phrases and post it from my phone.
  • I feel like the comments section on Twitter has more meaning than on Instagram: Who reads the comments on Instagram (besides the one who posted the photo)? But when I see someone's Tweet has replies, I'm checking them more often than not. I can use this to jump into a conversation and it works great.
  • Hashtags are much more restrictive on Twitter than on Instagram. On Twitter I have to carefully think about which two or three hashtags I want to use and it can be difficult to make the "right" choices.
  • Finally, for every niche you can think of, there are weekly cross-promotion events on Twitter. They work like this: Someone from the niche makes the post, you have to like, retweet, and reply with your website link. Then you have to follow a few people who participate in the event, and in return others will follow you back too. It's very similar to how the Pinterest exchange works here on WA - but with the whole Twitter community on a weekly basis or so.

I don't want to ignore how powerful Instagram is nowadays. When reading about social media success stories online, there are way more happening on Instagram than on Twitter.

I'm honestly surprised I had better results from Twitter than Instagram (I expected the opposite). I guess it boils down to my personality: I'm simply not a "photos guy" that's the only way I can put it.

Please bear in mind...

If you can create images every day, then I HIGHLY suggest you try the social media challenge yourself and check your results on Instagram before you take my own personal conclusions above for granted. As already mentioned, I suggest you follow Audrey's WA training here.

Going forward, I decided to focus on Twitter as my personal daily social media routine. My twitter handle is @fromclicktosale if you're not following me already.

If even a small, new account like mine can generate sales in the first month, then I don't even wanna know how great this works for real influencers.

As always, I'll keep you updated with what works & doesnt' work for me!

Thanks for reading :)

Good one James - you've got great experience with this that's valuable for me and I'm sure for many others here. Thank you!
John 😁👍

Hi John, I'm happy to share my experience if it's helpful 😁

Thanks for the info. Excellent!

Thanks for reading & commenting!

Welcome

Awesome insight good information
Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim! Reading your comment is a relief, I was hesitant at first to write this conclusion because I wasn't as disciplined during the second half of the challenge. On top of that, most people see much better results with Instagram & Pinterest, so I was surprised to see Twitter performed best for me. Seeing your comment I'm happy I shared my conclusions anyways, even if they are not mainstream. Thanks for leaving your feedback!

Good information. I was never a social media kind of person, but I've started posting on FB, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest. We'll see how it goes. I've heard Linkedin is good as well, but I'm not currently doing anything there yet.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Michael, thanks for following me on Twitter - I've followed you right back.

The most important thing with social media is to do it daily. This isn't like blogging or YouTubing where once or twice per week works out well over several months.

On social media, you have to post daily and even more importantly, you have to INTERACT with several people every day by leaving comments / liking / sharing etc.

That's why it's so difficult to grow on multiple social media platforms: Daily work is a strong commitment.

I've also heard that Linkedin is great. I think you should select the platform that you personally like the most. Each platform has millions of users and a huge audience once you find your followers.

Let me know how it goes for you and all the best for your growth!
