5k Followers In 3 Months (Twitter Study)

I've been getting more and more results on Twitter by the day. Consequently, I've been studying successful accounts more closely to see what it is that they're doing exactly.

Some of these accounts have shown insane growth.

Surely the first thought is "they're buying followers". There's an easy way to check this: How much interaction do they have on their tweets?

An account with 5k followers and gets barely any likes, retweets, or replies to their tweets... That's usually a sign that most of their followers aren't even active accounts.

So I've only looked at accounts that get A TON of interaction with their tweets.

Here are a few interesting numbers.

    (Twitter Account: @HIAliving)

This account is 1 week old (I know because I've followed them the first day when it was created). It also says "Joined April 2020".

After only 1 week they have already way over 100 followers, 149 to be precise. This is an impressive feat if you've ever tried to do some Twittering from scratch!

The number I want you to focus on is this though: 576 total tweets posted already.

576 tweets divided by 7 days = ~82 tweets per day.

    Let's look at another one.

    (Twitter Account: @InvestmentTalkk)

This account was created in February this year. Assuming it was created at the beginning of February, it is only 3 months old by now.

It has already over 5k followers, even getting close to 6k. To be precise, it has almost 5.7k followers - and this after only 3 months of tweeting!!

But once again, the key number is at the very top: 7'383 total tweets.

So let's assume this account was created at the beginning of February, as already said that's 3 months ago which means roughly 90 days.

7'383 tweets divided by 90 days = ~82 tweets per day

    DO YOU NOTICE SOMETHING?? :)

Sorry for the capslock but isn't this insane?! That's a HUGE volume of tweets per day. Granted, the fact that both accounts have the same number of daily tweets on average (82 tweets per day), that's probably a coincidence.

But what it means is that a HIGH VOLUME of tweets is key.

    What counts as a tweet?

    • Your tweets,
    • Your replies to other tweets,
    • Your re-tweets of other tweets.

(Likes and DMs don't count as tweets.)

    CONCLUSION:

Growing on Twitter fast seems very possible. And the benefits & payoff are insane. Can you imagine having 5k followers in 3 months from now?

Of course it is based on consistent work: 80 tweets per day is no small feat.

That's why I've invested in a little piece of software that allows me to schedule my tweets on a calendar and it posts them for me automatically. So I sit down for an hour to write all my tweets for the whole day and don't have to constantly log onto Twitter.

Funny enough, when I check the tweets of my favorite big accounts, they use the same software as I do now. If you're interested in what it is, send me a private message please. I don't want to use this article to promote something outside of WA.

    YOUR TURN NOW:

I hope this little research inspires you to go out and create massive content - for whichever platform you're working on!

I'm sure the same lesson applies everywhere: Write a lot, and then write more. Get your content out there!

Do the numbers on this page impress you? Let me know in a comment below!

And please don't forget to give this article a like :) Thanks so much!

    To your success,
    James

UPDATE: I just learned that Tweetdeck is integrated into Twitter. One of the features is that you can schedule your tweets to be posted at any date & time in the future. Extremely useful for tweeting more efficiently and posting more in way less time! I use a different tool with more features but if all you want is scheduling tweets, Tweetdeck is free & integrated.

    James, really useful.
Great bit of study and work, phenomenal 82 per day that = 3.4 tweets per hour.... over a 24 hour period, or 6.8 per hour if it’s over 12 hours.... which is roughly one every 10 mins..... now that really is insane, but looks like it’s getting results, look forward to seeing your growth.. 👍

It is quite insane!! Like I said, these accounts all use tools to schedule & automate their tweets. Else you're online 24/7 and that's not good :D

I hope your blog has been growing steadily, Cordelia. Always a pleasure hearing from you!

    Cheers,
    James

    Great job, James!

    Jeff

Thanks Jeff! However, I'm not even close to those results yet - I've only just discovered how all of this works and wanted to summarize it here on WA.

I'm excited to test out what a higher volume of tweets will do for me!

    Cheers,
    James

Oh, Okay--well, I have no doubt that you WILL achieve it though!

    Jeff

After the last couple weeks, the results are pretty clear:
    More tweets = more followers.

The more I post the faster I grow, especially by replying to tweets of big accounts in the same niche.

Now I just gotta be careful that I don't get consumed by Twitter because seeing results is getting addictive fast haha

Thanks for your kind words, Jeff. I'll keep updating this as I learn more!

    Cheers,
    James

    Great!

    keep up building it!
    free traffic is always welcomed!

    have a good day

Thanks Pietro! I appreciate your support and I hope your online business is growing too. Cheers, James

This is a tedious job as well. If we do not enjoy it! So enjoy your job to success!

I agree with you 100%, Florentino!

We must enjoy it at its core. There are plenty of alternative traffic sources out there, no need to get hung up on something we would hate.

Thanks for adding this important detail!

    Cheers,
    James

    Welcome!

80 tweets a day. I wonder how much time each day they spend on twitter. If you were online 4 hours a day, you'd have to fit in 20 tweets, retweets, or whatever each hour.

Interesting info though. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Michael!

That's why you need some kind of tool or software to help with scheduling & automating your tweets. Else it's impossible to reach that kind of volume without being constantly on the platform.

However, I'm already seeing steady growth with only around 20 tweets per day (including replies & re-tweets) which doesn't take much time at all. More is better though, as the examples above indicate.

Thanks for reading & commenting Micheal, much appreciated!

    Cheers,
    James

I currently use Buffer and I do some automation using IFTTT by picking up my own websites RSSFeed (as well as some other informational blogs) and then feeding into Buffer which then handles the posting.

The biggest issue I have run into is finding a way to automatically include the right hashtags. That is still a manual task. If I could do that automatically, that would be the bomb.

From what I've learned so far is that the biggest growth factor is replying to other people's tweets.

Apparently, tweeting a lot of links and hashtags hardly has any impact.

So far I can confirm this to be true according to my Twitter experience: Most of my followers come after I've left an interesting reply to a tweet on a bigger account.

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers,
    James
