recent study (2014) by collecting data from 200000 websites and total number of 1.5 billion unique visitors (in 6 months) has shown which social media refers the most engaged visitors. In the report, the average amount of time users spend on the website, the number of pages they visited and the bounce rate were compared.
Turns out youtube brings the best visitors. With 228 seconds average time on site, 3 visited pages and 43% bounce rate.

Google Plus comes next with 188 seconds, 2.5 pages per visit and 51% bounce rate. So this makes it clear that Google Plus should be one of your priority in social media marketing. not only Google Plus provides you with engaging users but also it will improve your ranking in Google search (by using relevant keywords).

Twitter and facebook are almost the same. Twitter users visit more pages of your website (2.15 compare to 2.03) and facebook user spend more time on your site (127 seconds compare to 123 seconds). They both have exactly 56.35% bounce rate.

But we should also consider the number of active users (per month) on these social medias:

93% of small businesses use facebook to carry out their social media marketing. 80% and 56% of small businesses use Twitter and google, respectively. Even though Facebook is popular with small businesses, only 30% of them think it can be an effective marketing.
If you haven't found the best social media for your business yet, then the best strategy is to use them all and find out by Google Analytics which on is working for you.

How often should you post on Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus?

Twitter: Your posts on twitter have much shorter life span than your Facebook or g+ posts. More than 90% of interactions come within 1 hour after you tweet something. So it's important to check your account every 2-3 hours. You need to tweet at least 5-6 times a day and spread it through the day. If there is important news or updates you need to tell your users, Twitter is the better option. Breaking news always spread much faster in Twitter than other social media.
Don't forget: more than 80% of users access Twitter via mobile devices

I need to work on my website, it doesn't look nice on mobile.

Facebook: If you post several times a day on facebook, your users will get frustrated. So post every two daysand try to offer something interesting or valuable.

Google Plus: it's almost like facebook. 3 to 5 times a week would be enough.

The most important concept in Google Pluse (in my opinion) is Communities. You can take advantage of active communities to share your content and try to build relationships with users.
Let me know what you think and whether you agree with these statements or not.
