I usually do blog research, compare what others have already said, article directories are a great source of information, and if product based try amazon reviews or any other product reviews you can find. This should keep you pretty busy. You have to sort through the BS, as we all do.
I look for forums within my niche, people love to talk about their new purchases, the good and the bad. I also check out reviews on Amazon and, the question and answer bit of Amazon throws up some nuggets.
For Internet marketing reviews, Amazon wouldn't apply but searching the forums is a great way of getting the low down!
Make sure you look at individuals blogs. Some may be fake but you can usually pick out the good ones as they will back up their comments intelligently.

This is a great question I am struggling with the same thing. I had actually decided that something was not a scam and then found reviews saying it was. I was thinking it might be an idea to post a question here asking if anyone has any real experience with the thing I was trying to review. I'm not sure if that is allowed but I have seen others do it.

What I do is pretty much 30% facts/specifications (my niche is sort of technological), 30% filler words and 30% praise. And 10% critisism with a tongue in cheek approach. Something like that.
