Attention Newbies: A little trick I learned.

Last Update: August 22, 2018

Most of you already know this, but it was new to me and it helped a lot, so I am passing it on to my fellow newbies.

When you start a new document from site content, here at WA; just before you post that article, scroll to the top bar. Locate the little picture icon and click it.

There you will find tons of pictures that are free and safe to use in your posts.

I suggest that you pick one extra picture that goes along with your article. Add it to the top. Then publish, then when you are given the option to edit, go in and save the extra picture to your laptop. After you have saved it, go ahead and delete it.

Then scroll down the page and look at the bottom right side.

You will see a link to add a featured image. Click it. Now add that extra image that you saved. This will be your featured image.

Now, one last thing. Scroll back up and you will see at the top bar a little dotted line icon.

Pick a good spot (maybe six lines into your post) and insert that dotted line. This will give you a "continue reading" line and your readers will be able to find the comment box under the article if you add this line.

I did not know this at first, but if you don't add that line, your posts is just part of the continual feed and will not have a comment box under it.

So, apparently the line is important! And the featured images really brighten up your site.

Just another tip from one newbie to another!

Virginia

Hi IamVirginia,
I recently also found out about this tip on your blog, i was using my own graphics or pics. The first two images (one is from my pictures and the other is from the internet. But its really good to know your can have a file to get images or graphics from inside WA community.

Also, my new affiliate friend,
I am not this weekend using a PC but my cellphone.
I'm embarrassed to say I don't know if this tip works also in a mobile format. If the dashboard works the same on.phone, so to speak. I will look into this today!

I have actually seen this but never paid it any attention as my theme has a 'continue reading'. I can see one advantage of this method. You can insert it where you like. I see you inserted it to come right your featured image. My automatic one comes withing the top text.

Yes, It makes more room on each page that way.

Firstly, thank you for the advice on adding that little line - I had no idea.

Secondly, I am not sure that the free images on WA are actually safe.

If you follow the blog series starting with this one: from onmyownterms, you will see that he warns about using any of the WA images as they come from Pixabay, which is not safe.

Thoughts?

The last paragraph of what?

of the post you linked. It says there is nothing wrong with using site content images.

I think Cramervod is correct, site content images are safe.

This is the comment from one of his posts in the series that alerted me not to use WA's images:

"All royalty free image sites are pretty much use at your own risk. There's no escaping that. Pixabay is great for images, along with the other sites Kyle and Carson recommend in the training. Site Content images are taken from Pixabay along with other royalty free sites."

Onmyownterms does an extensive post about Pixabay and says basically to not use it, we are not protected. So now I'm afraid to use any of WA's images.

I am not afraid to use them because even if they turn out to be an image that I eventually have to remove, that will be no biggie.

I have used these pictures before in site content and when I went to edit some content in Wordpress the pictures were not in my content have you had this happen? I did not know you could take the pictures and put them on your own laptop, Did you just upload or what is the procedure in Site Content to put pictures on your Laptop? Thank you for writing this.

I just right clicked on the picture and saved it to my computer. I have had pictures disappear on me that were not saved to my computer so I save all the pictures that I use to my computer first.

Hi Virginia,
I am super interested in this post. Thanks you for the information. When you say "Just before you post your new article, scroll to the top bar. Locate the little picture icon and click it."

Are you talking about a post in Wordpress? I am on a new post page in wordpress and do not see any little picture icons.
I am sure its right in front of me but any clarification will be appreciated

Thanks in advance!
Mike

No, Here at WA. When you start a new document. The little picture icon is at the top of it.
