Some Tips On Staying Motivated
Having spent the best part of 4 decades in a job that didn't exactly inspire me, I did at least learn a thing or two about staying motivated.
As a business owner with Wealthy Affiliate however you should be way more motivated than I was back then. Writing about something you are passionate about is motivation enough.
However, from time to time we all have periods when we lack self belief, or feel as if life is getting on top of us.
If you are going through one of those periods right now, here are a few tips on staying motivated. You may have seen them before, but these are the ones I have found most useful;
1. Build On The Small Victories
When we really up against it we focus very heavily upon all the negative stuff we think about. Our minds can be very stubborn. It will often refuse to pay attention to any kind of success we have achieved no matter how small.
If you have been working hard on your business you will have no doubt done something that worked really well. There may be things that aren't doing too well right now and they might be consuming all your attention. However now is the time to focus on what did work, and find a way to build on that success, no matter how small it was.
2. Don't Try To Get Everything Done At Once.
When I feel unmotivated it's often because it feels like there are hundreds of things that I need to do in order to move forward.
Chances are your mind is over thinking the situation and making you feel overwhelmed. Think one step at a time. Rather than trying to resolve all the issues you think need resolving right now, just pick one specific thing and give it your full attention. If you do this then you will make significant progress with that one thing, and that will build not only your confidence and self esteem, but your motivation too.
3. Learn Something Completely New.
It may be something relating to your niche that you have no knowledge about. Or it could be a specific thing about marketing you want to learn (you could check out one of Jay's videos). Or if you want to focus away from your business, you could read a book about an entirely different subject that interests you.
The important thing is that you are learning, and that the area of new learning is a completely new direction. Your brain will respond to the new stimulous, and will help you feel more motivated.
4. A Complete Break
It may only need be a day, or maybe a couple of days. The important thing is that you do allow yourself a break. The fact is you may have been working flat out because you were highly motivated. However, a high degree of motivation is very hard to maintain over the longer term, and subsequently may find you are beating yourself up because you are losing motivation.
When it gets like this there is probably nothing wrong with your motivation at all. You are simply working too hard because of your strong motivation. Allowing yourself a break is the best antidote for this. Before you know it you will be raring to go again.
5. Some Contact With Others
For all the incredible benefits that running your own website business from home has, sometimes a business like ours can be a lonely road to take. As humans we need to communicate with others and share our experiences. At Wealthy Affiliate of course that is a very easy thing to do. You are never short of company and for someone to reach out to.
Sharing our concerns or difficuties is a good way of figuring things out. The input of others, or simply letting others know, can often be the solution.
At Wealthy Affiliate you don't need to dwell on things, so try to use the vast community here to help you regain your lost motivation.
6. Look After Yourself
We all know the benefits of getting a good nights sleep, eating properly and exercising. However putting it into practice is a different matter.
If you are struggling to get your motivation back after a day or two then it could be that you need to take a closer look at your overall lifestyle to see if you may be neglecting one of these critical areas.
I find exercise is a great motivator. It helps put things in perspective and generally gives you a feeling of well being.
Depending upon how fit you are, even a gentle walk in fresh air can make a world of difference. Consult your doctor however if you haven't exercised for a while.
7. Focus On What You Do Have
When we are trying really hard to reach our goals we can sometimes lose sight of all the good things we already have in our lives. We can be so focused on getting what we don't have, we forget that we already have a lot to be thankful for.
Being grateful and appreciative of how our life is right in this moment will remind us that the world isn't necessarily stacked up against us. It can often feel that way sometimes when we don't feel like we are getting closer to our goals.
Our goals should get us to an even better place than we are already at now. If we believe we need to achieve our goals simply because our lives totally suck then our motivation will at some point suffer.
Try to focus on what the world has already given you, and be thankful for that. You will then begin to believe it possible that the world wants to give you more.
I really hope some of these tips that have helped me will also help you too.
Perhaps you have some tips of your own that you want to share below.

Hi Ray,
Some very useful tips here. It certainly reads as if you more than earned them or the paths to them certainly. Without any motivation Lethargy is normally the next step and when that is entrenched then it is a rut!!
Better to follow these excellent tips before that occurs!!;
